The day I get told I can't take my phone into a cinema is the day I stop going to the cinema.

Re: News - Laptops no longer welcome in Vue cinemas

Lol, yup! Never went that much anyway, it's way overpriced. At well over a fiver per person, even at student price, you suddenly notice we could keep the money, buy it on DVD for <£10, and watch it on my projector at home. Only go to the cinema now as a one-off if there's something I particularly want to watch.

Edit: My local's a Cineworld now anyway, so I'll be fine

Re: News - Laptops no longer welcome in Vue cinemas

Haha this is ridiculous! I cant wait for them to start actively searching for and prohibiting the possession of mobile phones, they are going to lose so much business they might start realising how stupid they really are.

I HATE cinemas - overpriced (isnt even the word for it..) uncomfortable, noisy and all too often you'll get that one annoying kid who kicks your chair. I myself do not and will not pay for that experience, unless of course my girlfriend drags me along (which i demand be on a Wednesday so i am not totally being mugged off.)

I am much happier sitting at home watching it on my cinema setup whether i pay for it or not At least then i am comfortable, can pause it when i want, can eat my own stuff, have my mobile on me and if for some bizarre reason must check hexus forums or facebook i can damn well do so!

Re: News - Laptops no longer welcome in Vue cinemas

Was talking about this earlier with a mate. We came back to the whole is piracy theft thing, and eventually onto retail shops, who suffer a lot more loss due to theft than the entertainment industry IMHO and it's not just mythical 'lost sales' it's actual stock that cost money they will never get back.

Still not been searched on my way out of a shop yet. Still not been made to jump through hoops to enjoy my purchase. Still not been banned from carrying my bag(s) or wearing loose clothing in a store. Still not been made to feel my business wasn't appreciated or been treated like a criminal when trying to hand them my money.

Obviously the technical challenges are very different but I think the entertainment industry could learn a lot from the retail industry's attitude and approach. Yes there's still plenty of security in your average shop, but it's passive, it's in the background and never gets in the way of trying to buy and enjoy something. Most importantly they never punish the honest customer for being an honest customer.

It's not going to stop me going to a Vue cinema, but that's only because when I go to my local one I don't pay anyway, because my sister's husband and my nephew both work there, and they get loads of free tickets

Might not be so far away. I went to Target in Australia a while ago and a bossy woman on a lectern just inside the door told me to remove my back pack! I was a bit confused at why she was asking me to do it, but it appears they've gone a bit zero tolerance over there. I wasn't overly pleased they assumed I was some sort of thief, and even less pleased I was just meant to put it on the floor vaguely near her. You could easily take an empty bag and leave with a different one, there seemed to be no system for checking in and out. Surprisingly, we didn't stay in the store all that long.

Heh, I would have turned around and left on the spot.

Never really understood why people agree to that kind of thing. Unless you have a warrant you're not getting my property without a fight. Don't really care if you have a clipboard and and HV jacket.

Thankfully not come to that in Britain, if it does, they'd lose my business. I think most British shops are acutely aware of the the threat of the interwebs to their business, and the fact there's nothing in their store you can't buy elsewhere, which I think will stop them being so silly.

in the philippines your not allowed any back packs or big hand bags in the shops. they take it away from u and give u a ticket where u later reclaim your bag using that ticket

My grandfather hated "The Pictures", but my grandmother liked to go, so under protest he would accompany her. But once there he would put a coat over his head and read a book with a torch. I wonder what people would make of that behaviour nowadays.
