That's a really interesting way of looking at it, and a really good point.

I'm reminded of what Google did with the Nexus One. Everyone said that the partners would revolt and cause Android to come crashing down at Google's feet. And then that didn't happen. Even if NVIDIA was going for a wide roll-out, I don't think it would be a big deal, since it's so common these days to have factory-overclocked and custom-cooled cards. AIB partners could easily differentiate themselves.

This wasn't the case back when 3DFX burnt all of their bridges by selling cards directly. Guess we'll see how it develops.

They're making the cards themselves, so therefore one less person is trying to take a "cut" of the pie, so they can sell them much cheaper...

I don't think Nvidia will scrap its add-in board partners the way 3dfx did. Besides, EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, et al. are too important to piss off. More likely it's as some here have already stated: Nvidia is replacing the loss of XFX and BFG with their own branded iron.

Best Buy UK doesn't have a number of things that the US site does, anyway. (I've looked for particular items in the past, and only seen them in the US.)
