At least the handset looks nice, as does the LG.

Buttons would be wrong. Just buy one of the many similarly specced droid phones, such as the Galaxy, Desire, or whatever...
Getting a WP7 handset and then installing Android on it would be one of those pointless fail projects...

I've not found so, but then I've been used to using lots of different UIs.
Its very very natural to pan across to see more of the screen when edges of letters are missing.
