Very poor support from Samsung considering this is their number one phone and also a big step for them in the world of Android. Samsung have always been poor at supporting their phones too be honest. Look at the so called super phone 'JET' 12 months down the line and had very little support. Once made and sold , Samsung have moved on.
Shame.... as Samsung is a good maker of things electrical.
PS Galaxy was riddled with issues from day one, was not a well built phone, regardless of the sales figures and tech in it.
Sony are worse than Samsung and Motorola. I wouldn't even buy Sony Ericcson phone in this age.
I want this phone sooooo much atm! :D. Samsung support isn't too much of an issue for me. XDA developers can wipe the floor with any OEM manufacturers ROM without breaking a sweat.
Way too much money to pay for a phone... Just because iPhone is ~£500 doesn't mean price has to be matched.
Greedy bastards!!
iPad (or any tablet) is ~£400 which you can justify (somehow!) but mobile phone? No way.
Cant wait for Android 3 to come out and watch all the people expecting their phones to get it. I don't think any current or before phone will get android 3, not even the desire.
People suddenly expect phone makers to constantly update software for their phones. If the phone works when released then a software update is a bonus, not a requirement.
Samsing support is naff as best, as I've found out since getting my N220, good job there are decent user sites out there...
Hey, that's not fair - 2.1 on the X10 is still on track for the end of this month - at least according to the latest bulletin at http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produc...the-x10-update. On the other point though - like you, it makes me laugh (sarcastically) when folks complain that the GS is only just now getting the 2.2 update when - as you rightly say - SonyE aren't even willing to talk about whether or not X10 will see it. And they're supposed to be in the same market segment...
I'm a bit disappointed to hear here that the Galaxy S isn't good quality - I'd read on the Android forums that there's some screen fragility. Okay it's definitely not a pretty phone (as in to my eyes it's on parity with the iPhone4 - dog ugly), but I'd put up with that for the chance to go AMOLED and an outer chance of getting Gingerbread (3.0). My elderly X10 is reasonably well built and it's iPhone3 "pretty" - imho of course. ;)
Much as I hate to give compliments to Apple - I've got to say that in this case they got it right, they've got full control over the OS and you get your updates pretty much at the same time - none of this "if you're on T-Mobile you'll get it now, O2 in two weeks, Vodafone and Orange in two months, and Three sometime next financial year" nonsense we get with Android.
Saying "all the people expecting their phones to get it" is a sweeping generalisation - sure there will be a lot of sheeple who want to iPhone-like have bragging rights to the latest and greatest, but there's also a lot of folks who already accept that a lot of the devices out there don't have the specs to be able to handle the bloated size of G'bread
Two words disprove that - Nexus One - apparently its already running (alpha/beta) copies of G'bread. I've also got a forum posting (somewhere) that says that Samsung have hinted that they're looking at this for the Galaxy S, which meets all the hardware recommendations so it's just a (minor?) porting and testing job.
"Phones" yes, but "smartphones" are small computers so you have an expectation that they're going to be patched. No company could launch a non-functional phone, but all of them launch with faults that can/are subsequently patched out. And therein lies the sand-in-the-underwear for the standard platform users (Symbian, Android, WP7?) when they see devices from manufacturer X get the update whereas manufacturer Y's don't. Or you get the dumb situation where different models on the same OS get treated differently - e.g. Samsung Galaxy Portal v's Galaxy S.
Unlike you I'll give (small!) kudos to SonyE - at least their threatened 2.1 update is going to apply to all their Android phones, X8/X10Mini/X10MiniPro/X10 - a level playing field. Okay many down-marks for launching that update well behind everyone else. And don't get me started on the lack of 2.2...

My phone is now running the official Froyo for Scandinavia using the guide above, won't be much to port over to the UK version when it's released :D
I do think it is fair. SE brought forward the release date of 2.1 from Q4 to Q3 and then slipped back to Q4. They shouldn't have committed to Q3 when they must have known they couldn't make Q3. It also the distinct lack of info on the SE blogs that doesn't help. They keep promising info on dates/2.2 etc but never giving it. Just check out the SE product blog to see how angry we all are.
And no I'm not expect 3.0 on the X10 as that wasn't announced when X10 was released where as 2.2 was!
Hmm, according to some of the other 'droid forums (US-based) the story is that it was the marketing department in SE that moved the date - in an effort to boost their results and deflect some of the criticism they were getting because Samsung etc were launching end Q3. Since I've got little regard for marketing folks, I'm quite willing to believe this. Especially as it looks like the original Q4 estimate is going to be correct.
Oh, I hear that - SE do seem to adopt this high handed attitude that just get's folks' backs up (are Samsung the same - or are they better?). We've never seen anything official on 2.2 - merely veiled promises that they'd look at the feasibility of this once 2.1 was in the can. Personally speaking I'd be quite happy with a solid 2.2 update sometime in Q3 next year, so that'd be a year on 2.1 followed by a year(ish) on 2.2, (my current contract runs out in June 2012).
Again, I'm going to agree with you - there's no hardware reason why we can't have 2.2 and - if you believe the blurb from Google - it makes the phone run "better", so I think SonyE's a pack of morons if they don't do the update.
Actually the 3.0 update makes me smile - despite being told that the phone doesn't meet the hardware specs, and it's not even out officially yet, there's still folks on the Sony forums demanding it. Then again, we've also got nitwits demanding 65M colours and multitouch - despite being told (repeatedly) that the phone's hardware is capable of neither. :wallbash:
Apologies to the Galaxy S owners for going off-topic, but as cheesemp says, us X10 owners are an angry mob at the moment. I'm busy sharpening my pitchfork if Sony miss the end-of-this-month deadline...
True! I just don't think SE release how important us techies are in form and giving opinions. I've personally got my whole department of 30 developers to avoid SE android phones. Plenty of desires and Galaxy S's though!
I do wonder if SE will switch to WP7 after this as I can't see them being the top android handset maker this decade!
Anyway thats my last of topic post on this!
