5am? Does Hexus not sleep?
Hmmm, midnight embargo by any chance? Write the story on Monday, set a publishing date in the CMS and vbulletin, presto! Pictures hit Hexus the second the embargo lifts, with everyone still cosily tucked up in bed.
Well, it all seems to fit with the rumours so far. From here on in it will all depend on the launch prices. 6850 looks like the nicer card to me: if it can beat the 5830 at about the same price AMD will be back in the mid range fight properly
Beautiful coolers, i just wish it was friday though so we had some reviews and numbers to look at.
theres benchies out there as well; but whats interesting me is the 6850 is being benched against the £50 cheaper 768 GTX460 and not the same priced 1 gig version , and the 6870 is against the 1 gig GTX460 and not the same priced GTX470
AMD pr department maybe?
would hexus , in there review please compate on a price point - scan have 768meg GTX460`s for £115>£120 and 1 gig for £165 or so
+1 for single PCI-E!
But, -1 for non-silent cooler. But, people like Gigabyte are known to make wonders.
I'm pretty sure they'll do their best to compare based on the estimated retail price at launch: it'll be easier for these cards as I'm sure they have a lab full of mid to high end cards
It's going to be a long time before someone works out a way to make a passive cooler for a 100W plus card!! Too much heat to duct away! I don't think there's any card that uses a PCIe connector *and* a passive cooling solution at the minute, is there?
Can't wait for some proper bench's, shall be making a wee trip over to scan to upgrade my rig much sooner than i thought!
-1 For the change of versions via the generations. Why couldn't they just stick with 6750 and 6770, serious mistake in my view. Dont want them going down the Nvidia route, hell their products and whats what is a joke up until this latest generation.
Passive HD4850
So the necessary cooling has been around for a while, admittedly a rather cumbersome solution and I'm sure a fair few of them overheat but it's possible.

a little review for you on the passive card

Interesting review - it looks from their overclocking results like the 110W a 4850 kicks out is the absolute limit of passive cooling at the minute.
I was interested to see (while looking at something else today) that XFX have started doing single slot 5770s too! Perhaps the rebadged versions that become 67x0 will have power regulation tweaks to allow them to run without PCIe connectors and with passive cooling - that's be pretty good...
