Re: News - Chrome 7 released to the stable channel

That's great news! I would much prefer a faster and more stable browser than one laden with buggy features. Why does this article make it sound like a disappointment? Way to go Google!

Always happy to accept new bug fixes and tweaks .

But surely they're gonna run out of sensible numbers if they go up a version every 6 weeks, that's nearly 9 versions every year.

Re: News - Chrome 7 released to the stable channel

I don't understand why they go for full version number increases every time, bug fixes and a bit of speed up is a .x release surely?

Unless they are just building hype... actually, that'll be it

As soon as they have the highest number they will probably slow down. They have to beat IE9 and Opera 11 surely?

I tried Chrome a few days ago - I don't care how fast it is, if there's no bookmarks sidebar I won't be changing from Firefox.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed. I expect a lot from a new number. I mean, it's a whole new number. That sort of thing used to be sacred.

Re: News - Chrome 7 released to the stable channel

I can see the new highlight style behind tabs in the most visited view, oh, and a logo in the bottom right corner. Not much else has changed visually, no major feature updates.

Still waiting for an improved bookmarks manager, better RSS support, downloads as a separate process so I can close the browser window (come on, even IE solved that) and an option to prevent Chrome from hijacking my media links. They can have their major version bump then
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Thats it - End users will want a product that as 'new' as possible. Comparing version 6 (or even 7) to a version 9 , makes 9 look newer - even if as we all know - it isn't. Once they catch up they'll reduce the number of x.0 release they produce. Be interesting to see if Mozilla speed up firefox version numbers in response?

Re: News - Chrome 7 released to the stable channel

Version numbers don't mean the same thing to the Chrome team as they do to everyone else. Because all updates are automatic and silent and the version number isn't announced, it's essentially meaningless.

Chrome is unlikely to get new features. Google wants it to remain just as lightweight and simple as it is now. Updates are only going to bring bug fixes, performance improvements and minor UI changes.
