If you're a student you cab get pretty hefty discounts tho...
    Something around 15% IIRC.

    Example - University of Liverpool:

    http://store.apple.com/uk_edu_5000715

13" Air for £944 looks like a proper temptation.. Shame I'm not a student anymore BUT might drag my missus brother to the Apple store hehe

Oh, he only did that because OS X isn't ready for touchscreen yet - its Steve Jobs style to talk down anything they don't produce themselves (yet). Then they do a U turn and produce the same thing later on.

(See netbooks are crap at iPad launch vs 11.6 Macbook Air "netbook")

OS X Lion looks like it will be touch ready, and I fully expect a touchscreen macbook end of next year.

I keep reading "Lion" as "LiOn" or "l-Ion"...

    Stupid name.

Re: News - Apple unveils redesigned MacBook Air

If this came out when the original Macbook Air was released, I would be very intrigued.

But, to be honest, there are lots of 11.6 inch laptops around for 5 hours battery life (one with Core i5 and not ULV processors).

More importantly, I hope the build quality for this new 11 inch Macbook Air is much better than the old 13 inch Macbook Air.

They do look great, but the lack of an ethernet port makes it a no-go for me.

Wifi is all well and good but it tends to be unreliable, especially if you're shifting larger amounts of data about.

that was funny. didn't expect apple to come up with a netbook. I guess they don't control the market as much as they would want to

Probably the network port was too high...

You can always get an adapter tho -> http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC...co=MTk0MjI4Mjc

That thing is just amazing. They can fit an entire PC onto a PCB no bigger than a low end graphics card.. Truly breathtaking tbh.

Bet it'll still be horrible to replace the monitor on these things. Having attempted a monitor replacement on an original Air, I'm left with a very bent cover and almost-broken fingers.

Apple need a slap for this frustrating design...

Let's be honest though, Apple didn't design their MacBooks to be user serviceable.

hehe, how much data do you think you'll be moving with a drive that small?

Damn, I can't help myself lusting over this thing. Having seen one in person I can say that it really is a work of art - remarkably thin and light yet without feeling flimsy. If it were not for the high price I might be forced into finding a use for this machine!

If you think that is a work of art, you should have a look at a Toshiba R700/630. It packs a Core i3. Weights around 1.5kg. Comes with a DVD drive. Magnesium alloy. That laptop was a Toshiba anniversary celebration thing.
