Yet despite Android's amazing growth it still has to catch up with Apple in the apps department, with its App Store boasting 300,000 applications. It seems if Apple continues to vet all apps offered on its platform carefully and Android continues to grow quickly, there could be a chance it could overtake the current leader in the not-too-distant future.

Now they (Google) have reached the magic 100k figure I, for one, would like to see them start to phase in some quality controls on what goes into GMP - there's way too many theme/photosets/soundboards for my liking at the moment.

On the other hand, I'm really hoping that this'll go someway to convincing folks out there that "smartphone app" doesn't necessarily equal "iOS" and we'll see some of the nicer/more-useful apps sliding across from IOS to be available on Android too - at this moment I'd like to see Sony's BD Controller app.
