If they can do all this for £250 right now and Android 2.x, then things are looking up for the spring time when Anroid 3 is out with proper tablet support. I don't care about 3G connectivity because I have a Desire which can act as a wireless AP anyway, so that's no big deal.
As for the battery life, you need to compare this to the iPad not ereaders, that's what consumers will do after all.
8 hours, what the hell?!
30 days in a read outside in daylight e-ink screen for a kindle thats almost half the price.
Or 8 hours for $250..........
You'd have to be the kind of muppet that buys an iPad to go for the nook, oh wait millions did that!

It boils down to :
Monochrome vs colour - the mono kindle will lose.
Unfortunately eInk displays only gain from extended use
- you need to read from an eInk screen like kindle's for a few hours to appreciate it vs an LCD.
In a shop at instant glance, the colour LCD will look better.
I actually use my Android Phone as a Kindle device - so would be comparing battery with that.

This is the danger of a cross-over device. E-reader purists won't like the battery life, while people wanting a tablet will be faced with relatively limited functionality. Then again, you get quite a lot for $250...
I have good eyes and i find it difficult to read books on backlit displays - it just hurts.

Really, most people who see the kindle screensaver can't get over the fact its not printed.
On first glance e-ink looks better, its just that its only grayscale, if they have animations or other eye catching cool stuff, people might be drawn to the LCD, but side by side there is no contest.

People generally stop reading books that are in colour once they're about six years old. I can see how a device with an LCD screen would be better for reading magazines and graphic novels but not books.
ill buy an e-reader when they make popup e-books.
