Following the terrorism scare of late last week, printer cartridges are now under general suspicion.

Re: News - Larger toner cartridges banned from hand baggage on UK flights
Sorry but what the heck is the point in banning toner cartridges? Not that I often take a spare one on holiday or anything but I don't see this preventing anything; I'm sure there are other suitable containers you could stick explosives into?
Re: News - Larger toner cartridges banned from hand baggage on UK flights
Horse, door, stable, bolted, etc.
I honestly wonder what motivates these decisions.
"OMG, somebody put a bomb INSIDE something, well lets ban the thing that they put the bomb into, that'll solve the problem"
Let's just skip a few steps and arrive at the logical conclusion as determined by current security process - ban people and cargo from all flights - problem solved.

Definately.
What a ridiculous decision. There are MANY random things you could hide powder in.

Sorted! :)
Re: News - Larger toner cartridges banned from hand baggage on UK flights
During the original reports there were various people mumbling that toner was a specific problem due to it masking the explosive, havent a clue is thats for sniffer or xray detection.

++
This policy of banning potential threats until a magical utopia spontaneously appears is retarded.
And the Americans are worse, the TSA has banned just about everything bar clothes, and it'll only be a matter of time before someone with a suit dipped in TNT is discovered and you'll be forced to wear TSA-issued clothes for travelling.
Honestly, I don't know who's worse, the 'terrorists', or politicians.
Re: News - Larger toner cartridges banned from hand baggage on UK flights
Well I for one feel much safer now.
Oh wait, no I don't.
Re: News - Larger toner cartridges banned from hand baggage on UK flights
Who takes toner cartridges as hand luggage anyway? :/

I dont think the ban everything would be practical, but it cant be long now before they get close.
Give it a few more years and everyone will be required to travel naked, or maybe in some government issued boilersuit/jumpsuit, without luggage and being required to buy or rent clothing at your destination.
Whilst it might not be comfortable, the reduced weight should reduce the fuel needed and,as a result, either the cost of the ticket or CO2 emissions (delete as stupidity requires).
Re: News - Larger toner cartridges banned from hand baggage on UK flights
Politicians are the problem
I'm not sure whether they have a mental illness or are just plain stupid
"You can't fly with large printer cartridges" "fine I'll put the explosive in this Umbrella or a cane or something like that"(which would actually be more dangerous than the printer)
the worst part was listening to reports that they were going to detonate over England, c'mon, who would you target, the East Midlands on a day of no or little importance or the President of the USA's hometown in the days coming up to an election which could screw up the whole US Government?

And of course the dramatic reports have nothing to do with a response to BA's recent questioning of airport security measures. Nothing at all, no sir.

There's actually a substance called gun cotton. Very explosive stuff(if compressed).

Very much doubt it was a sniffer dog. The idea of masking smells is a myth, about the only thing that will stop a sniffer dog is CS gas or similar irritants which would be self defeating in this kind of scenario as any half decent handler would want to know why his highly trained dog was suddenly crying and pawing it's nose.
Agreed with others, this is just security theatre.

Damn the government, I just packed my printer in my luggage and I was just about to put some toner cartridges in my hand luggage.
I normally pack them so that I can print stuff on location, you know, maps and things.

To my mind security theatre is a performance that creates the impression of better security (e.g. metal detectors, restricted fluid amounts, etc).
Allowing rumours to spread about dangers that aren't present - that's subjugation through deception.
