Hmm, very interesting.... now i know its a very long way away but im really looking forward to these chips! Deciding whether to get one in Q2 2011 or to just wait another year patiently because its possible the refinements would be just as drastic as Phenom 1 vs 2 which in that case would be very good .

Isnt AMD a bit behind in terms of die shrinks though? 28nm by 2012 when iirc Intel are doing their 28nm chips 2011 right? I know that a lot of designs can still be very good and out do smaller dies in terms of power efficiency if your lucky enough so maybe AMD have some secret plan up their sleeves.... would be nice for them to grab the performance crown with their Bulldozer chips for a change!.

You're right, but remember, Intel has been on 32nm since, what, March? February? AMD won't catch up to that until at least next summer, so getting to 28nm by 2012 is fairly rapid.

Re: News - AMD goes in depth on Bulldozer plans

AMD have been a process behind for quite a long time. They're still producing on 45nm for mainstream processors: the bobcat-based APUs will be on 40nm from TSMC, and they won't actually have anything 32nm until next year, whereas intel have been pushing out 32nm CPUs for a while now. But don't forget that within that, AMD have 95W hexacore chips built on a 45nm process, which is pretty damn impressive by itself. AMD's designs seem to be pretty energy efficient for the process node they're produced on - after all, their graphics cards give astounding bang for watt, and I do wonder how much the CPU division is learning in terms of energy efficiency from the GPU division.

Of course, the other issue is going be to how quickly GloFo can ramp up production and reduce their process nodes: that's out of AMD's hands to a certain extent now, but it's going to be a telling factor in their success or failure over the next couple of years...
