i really hope this becomes a common platform because i love it, its just brilliant!
What's wrong with the conventional swivel screen like in normal convertable touchscreen laptops?

The mechanism is quite awkward, bulky and not very streamlined. by the looks of the dell system you wouldn't know it was a swivel screen unless someone did it in front of you.
erm bulky, no.
It is clearly less size.
What this has is some kind of style over substance thing going on, its got a crap awful CPU and will probably cost a lot. In the world of the Atom powered PCs people are desperately looking for a way to get their margin, tablets look to be it.
How? a big bulge out the back of a laptop vs a mechanism built into the bezel. Missing something am i?
I agree about the performance, not particularly interested in this till they get some decent platforms into it. AMD might have just the thing on the way though!
its extra, the frame on the side is purely cosmetic, if you take a laptop appart you'll see the TFT (or 'glass') some controller, and a backlight. The controllers are often moved further and further away, but on the whole they are kept close.
As we get better with them we can make less of a bevil, but there is still some required. I bet this has all its wires going in the hindge, as such the rest of the besil the coloured bit is purely cosmetic and not reuqired. Most that have a bulky hindge were not wasting space quite so much....
The Dell is the best design of convertible tablet I have seen, far smoother than the twisty old style mentioned above.
What would be REALLY cool is if the display was wireless, so I could leave the base and keyboard on the coffee table and retire to the sofa with something lightweight. In fact a wireless touch display would be a seriously cool add-on for any PC... full tower power and sofa sitting lightness... I like that idea... and it could have an I'm away from home Android installation and ARM CPU to be a full tablet when out and about.

Not that much more bezel really.
Besides its about the shape of the extrusion, the new design is quite fitting all round, nothing sticking out or breaking the lines.
Seen a lot of broken swivels, Dell's have two mechanisms may prove to be stronger and more durable. First piece of laptop design innovation since the IBM ThinkPad 701's Butterfly keyboard that I like.
What are we looking at here in terms of price?
My rough guess sits around £700...

The video puts me off already, touch-screen doesn't look responsive enough + if something had problems i.e. "doesn't work" its not great either.
Presentation skills of both chaps are just ridiculous.. Half of the time you don't see the device.
