I've had no news on getting the update from Orange either

I used version _82 of kies and hacked the registry to get the the 2.2 update as soon as Samsung made it available for the un-branded phones

this had the added advantage of dumping all the network bloatware at the same time!

For anyone that still hasn't gotten the update....

I managed to force an Upgrade from JPA (as I hacked my kies reg to get the scandinavian version of froyo) using this method:

Not sure what to do about this. Is it worth the hassle now? Within a month the Nexus S will be out and no doubt XDA will port gingerbread over to the Galaxy. I might wait and then go for some vanilla Android goodness.

Depends on whether you want a mature 2.2 rom or a bleeding edge 2.3

I'd go with a custom ROM over official anyway, always have done, always will do.

Well I got the updateat last. Although it was not easy. Had to factory reset to get the thing to connect to kies and when it finally went through messenger was broken. Wouldn't work at all and I have been contacted on twitter that I am not alone. I worked out that a factory reset should solve the problem. NOT smooth!
