    No more VGA

This is a good move. (Now scrap the BIOS.)

Nooooo, it's so not! I don't want to upgrade my monitor again in five years' time just because someone's decided the interface is out of date!

Erm, actually, five years is quite a long time, isn't it.

    I'll get my coat

(and hey, my CRT will still be supported by DisplayPort + active dongle, so it's not all gloom and doom!)

Bios is going. UEFI is comeing very soon. Of course you will need linux or win7 at least to support it. (Apple are using it atm)

As for the monitors. About bloody time too. I still see cheap nice monitors selling with vga only. I refuse to buy a dying interface. Also DVI->vga convertors hanging off theback of my card is ugly.

HDMI/Displayport should be pushed for the masses to make the home consumer issues simpler.

As far as I'm concerned, VGA should have begun phasing out 5 years ago, nevermind 5 years in the future. About bloody time.

I think its time for it to go, I can't really see any reason to keep it but DP and not HDMI? I don't think I would take that one.

Re: News - Intel, AMD, Samsung, Dell and Lenovo to retire VGA

This is great news imo even though i'm currently using 3 dvi monitors.

For one of them i have to use a mini display port to display port adapter that goes to an active display port to dvi adapter that adds about 15 inches of cable and plugs to hang off of my 6870's tiny little mini display port, i would much prefer it if i could have just got reasonably priced display port monitors so i would have only had to use a mini display port to display port cable.

Hopefully in the near future it will be easier to find cheaper display port monitors, i was disappointed to see the selection of display port monitors when upgrading last time as for £260 you can get a 23" 1080p with display port from scan when they do 26" 1200p dvi monitors for £30 less and then the next size up with display port is a 27" 1440p monitor for £860.

With most graphics cards coming with HDMI already I'm pretty sure nothing will change there just removing the chunky dvi ports meaning more outputs and for AMD cards a bigger vent area than the current 5xxx and 6xxx AMD/ATI cards have

I will still be using my Sony FW900 CRT in 2015 if OLED isn't affordable and in at least the 3rd generation. Migrating to DisplayPort 1.2 is excellent news for the future of high resolution/high hz displays tho. 1920x1080@240hz or 2560x1440@120hz goodness.

Good. And phase out DVI and HDMI while we're at it. DisplayPort is far superior and can be adapted to DVI, HDMI, and VGA so current displays will still be supported.

If LVDS is retired, neither VGA nor DVI-I will be outputted over DP.
