How is repeatedly shooting yourself in the foot considered a successful strategy?

No one is writing them off. They have the money and resources to do whatever they want.

They are just silly who can't get it right the first time. It takes them a lot of tries before it happens. And sometimes it still doesn't happen.

But then Apple don't get it right the first time either but they have a whole horde of loyalists willing and able to give their savings to them.

Or, more likely, dig themselves deeper into their debt hole.

Interestingly enough, I do technical support for pc's and mobiles - the Nokia N8 seems to have sold well however Symbian 3 is awful. At least Symbian 2's GUI/menu structure was more or less self explanatory but even that still generated loads of support calls.

As I say to the guys at work, Nokia have the low end sown up - you really cannot beat a basic £30 Nokia handset for your gran to make calls and possibly text, however in the smartphone market they are rapidly being left behind.

My opinion is that they are sticking with Symbian (currently) due to the poor hardware specifications compared to there competitors. Granted the N8 has a nice camera, care to name any *major* feature on the N8 that isn't done better by another smartphone manufacturer/OS?

If Nokia get the next OS right, ie simple, quick and easy to use then they may claw back some lost ground.
