I think it's fair to be jolly pissed for an outage of that sort. However I really hope the people who complained about losing so many e-mails were simply playing it up a bit to make things sound worse than they were. You really would hope people kept the most important stuff in more than one place.
It's like I tell anyone I setup a backup regime for: "Never trust a backup regime that somebody other than yourself is responsible for". Having backup systems is great, but always ensure that you know of at least two distinct places where your most important files are located.
All of my Hotmail are auto forwarded to my G-Mail account, all of my Uni emails are auto forwarded to my Hotmail account and then my G-Mail account.
That way if I need something urgently, then I have access via two/three different platforms...
Surely that's a common thing to do?
