Re: News - Nintendo 3DS UK pricing and launch date confirmed

To me it looks like they are taking the piss with there pricing. Hopefully it will be an epic fail at this price and make them drop it to a more sensible level. maybe if it was £199 but its still expensive.

Region locking it is just giving a hacker something else to aim at

That is some awesome marketing spin. Besides, aren't price, affordability and value all basically the same thing??

Not at all. Well, price leads into the other two, but affordability and value are certainly not the same. There are lots of things that are good value but not necessarily affordable. For instance, if I was offered a 64 bedroom conference centre with grade 2 listed chapel and on-site accomodation for around 30 staff, set in 98 acres of mature woodland and meadows, for around £1.25million, I might consider that to be pretty good value.

But I certainly couldn't afford it

£220...ouch, it'll still sell though no doubt (I'm not denying it's probably good value compared to its immediate competitiors ie iPhone though).

    I'd buy a 2nd PS3 or a 360 though thankyouverymuch!

Oh & Jim, if you were offered that deal you would find the cash from somewhere! (I've got £20 to invest)

Also the fact £229.99 for a handheld ain't exactly cheap either xD Can have a PS3, 360 or Wii and plenty change for that price.

Think I will wait a year or two for the price to drop and also wait to see if a new revision lands where it's refined and a much better battery life than 3 hours.

Re: News - Nintendo 3DS UK pricing and launch date confirmed

The whole beauty of the DS was that you took it with you on holiday and it kept the kids quiet and if you happened to be in an English speaking country you could buy them a new game if they got bored with the ones they had.

If Nintendo have now removed that option to purchase throughout the world then the other hand helds that retain it would be a significantly more appealing purchase to me and I suspect lot more parents.

I do think the prices comparisions to the home consoles is a bit wrong, yes I could buy a PS3, but could I play that PS3 for the 1.5 hours a spend on a bus everyday?

The issue is to show how much we are being ripped off for the 3DS. It's $249 in the states which with todays exchange rate is 249.99 USD = 156.503 GBP. Where the hell did they get the extra £80~ from for the UK. For a handheld the price is a little high, especially as the likes of the smartphones are now starting to cut into the handheld market. Nintendo will sell a load of them but it has to many issue's with it, region locking, poor battery, high priced games for a handheld.

Will be interesting to see how it does over time and if it sells as much or better than the DS line.

I'll pass on this one since I can't really see any major advantage over the DSXL that I got last year - can't see Brain Training, Sudoku, etc being worth £100-£150 trade up cost to see in 3D.

Is it possible that VAT is accounting for some of that difference? Not that I'm trying to make any excuse for them, because it's pretty obvious that we're being taken advantage of - again.

Even 20% VAT on top of the £156.503 would be £31.30 so there is still just shy of £50 unaccounted for xD

I guess this is why they region locked the units and the games to stop people getting it cheaper from the states etc.

Re: News - Nintendo 3DS UK pricing and launch date confirmed

Big underlying problem is we in this country will pay £229.99 for it. Nintendo and every other wise manufacture and seller of goods know that the British people will pay over the market value for goods because we are greedy and a 'must have' social group.

If people didn't buy it at £229.99 then Nintendo would reduce the cost.

    The pricing is a joke!

I'm holding out until the price drops, which I'm guess will happen shortly after release :-)
