it's looking unlikely that it'll magically reappear.
Yup. No extender, no care.
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
which is why I'm decomisisoning my WHS box as I speak - its been replaced by something more power efficient and smaller.
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
And something without a raid array for you to break? ;)
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
My WHS box has also been retired, mainly due to the drive extender withdrawal. I was messing around with FreeNAS for a while too but, unfortunately, I own a Samsung tv so DLNA etc. can be a bit of a pain.
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
I love my WHS box I really don't know what I would move to.
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
No drive extender still?
I'll be running WHS 2003 for at least the next few years then, by the looks of it.

That's about the size of it, yeah.
My attitude always has been .... don't upgrade if the existing version does what I need and want. And 2003 does.
I could add to that .... don't 'upgrade' if the new one does considerably less of what I want than the existing one does. "Vail" is, as far as I'm concerned, a downgrade not an upgrade.
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
Has microsoft split out the network drive imaging yet as an install for regular windows server at all?
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
Someone explain drive extender in words of one syllable, please? It's a phrase chucked around in so many things I get confused.
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
Need more space? Just add a disk and it goes into the storage pool; the WHS box does it all, no need for fancy RAID or that kind of thing.
It was simple and brilliant and they've take it away. Idiots.

Can I get on the beta for the 2030 version ;)
But your right, what is the killer feature going to be? Right now it does everything I want, except perhaps for RDP https tunneling, that is a total ballache and I've never found a set up that works reliably.
Ultimately thou what does Vail offer me to upgrade? Loss of a very useful feature only.

I'm sure I can arrange that for you ..... for a small (;)) fee.
:D
Typo amended, by the way. :)
Re: News - Windows Home Server ‘Vail’ Release Candidate arriving soon?
Oh, right, so the five disks I have in mine that appear as one, that won't work anymore?
IDIOTS. It's the best feature :(
