I look forward to the Amazon advert that tells you that you can no longer read the ebooks you "purchased" on apple products, just Android, WP7, Mac and PC desktop and their lovely Kindle hardware.

I hope it is done with the same voice as the one telling you the ebooks you had in the Kindle app on your iPhone will be there on your Android phone.

No they'll keep Amazon there, they don't want to have a fight with them.

    Sony on the other hand.....

Re: News - Apple further tightens control of App Store

The article is wrong, Amazon works in a completely different way and so is NOT affected.

You don't buy a book through the Amazon app, the app takes you via Safari to Amazon's website where you make the purchase. Then the Kindle app syncs the new book.

This is perfectly fine by Apple's T&Cs. What Sony wanted was a direct way of making the purchase on the app, something that is and already was against the app store conditions..

This is understandable, otherwise it would allow any app to use any other payment service, which for various reasons - both selfish and altruistic - is not allowed by Apple.

However, Apple are now stipulating that content purchased from other stores cannot be used in iOS apps. This would apply to the Kindle and Nook as well as Sony's reader.

Accoridng to Engadget: "Apple's come out with a statement pointing out that the App Store guidelines require that apps that allow content purchases must also allow them in-app through Apple's official iTunes-backed system"

So that would mean Sony, Amazon and Nook would have to pony up a percentage of the sale pric of an eBook to Apple for every one they sell. This would mean Apple making money on every purchase through iOS apps, regardless of who is doing the selling. It also appears this isn't a change to their rules, they just happen to be enforcing this with Sony and didn't bother with Amazon or Nook.

Amazes me how readily people submit to letting Apple or whoever decide what they can and can't run on their devices (and pay heavily for the privilege).
    Can you just............................?

Surely this is anticompetition. If Microsoft did something like this then they would be brought before the courts and fined. I'm surprised Apple hasn't been hit with lawsuits over its rules with the Ipod/Iphone store and flash.
