Hands up if your shocked by the iPad2 having a camera in it, after all they said the iPad didnt need one..
I wonder how the Apple fanboys will explain away this camera feature.
I remember LOTS of Apple fanboys making excuses on iPad 1 saying there is absolutely NO need for a camera.
The fanboys will always have an excuse.
This changes everything.... Again, and erm Again.
No higher res screen - no buy from me.
Well that wasn't the excuse before.
I remember lots of Apple fanboys saying the ipad was held at your chest/waist and so people will just look up to your face and you will look stupid to hold it in front of you as the ipad wasn't design that way. I.e. They argued it was not a good video conferencing tool.
But hey, I am sure they will use the excuse you mentioned (and many more).
Who honestly cares about what the fanbois say?
The iPad for most computer savvy people is a no go. It doesn't offer anything new that can't be done by a laptop costing the same price. However as a general tool for Joe Public it's an expensive toy which is actually pretty damn useful. I've had one from work for the last month, and the missus is now absolutely gutted if I don't bring it home. She's desperate to buy one, and I won't let her until the new one is released. :)
It's not ideal for a great number of purposes, video conferencing including. However, if the option's there to do something then obviously it's better to have it than not. But it's got a great number of uses beyond the norm as well. I'm currently using one to help a dancer actually take control of her performance in a more literal state. The dancer has lighting cues, video and sound triggerable by buttons on the iPad screen. She's able to control the piece whilst actually on the stage. It's these kinds of apps which I think are most exciting. :)
Lowe, yes, it is an expensive toy to do useful simple stuff which you can already do without the expensive toy.
Actually, I am still curious about what the fanboys will say. That is one of things that intrigues and frustrates me about Apple - the ridiculous things they say and how people just accept it. It's fascinating to me.
I'm an iPad owner but I'm not an Apple fanboy at all. The iPad's a bit more than a toy for me, it's overpriced (it's Apple) but it's been a very useful gadget at home. Specifically for web and emails, the battery life (which is stonking) and the quick power on. It's been pretty good for media stuff as well, though I've not used it too much on that side of things.
It wasn't worth the money but I've had a lot of use out of it. Weirdly, on balance I feel I got more use/moneysworth out of it than I have my EEEPC 1000H netbook (I know, keyboard, more ports etc.) I couldn't give a monkey's about having a camera on it and I doubt I'll be upgrading to the next gen anyway!
this seems to be apples business model though start with a basic model and then drip feed features onto it
Lots did, but just as many if not more were saying the opposite..that they wanted a camera on it and were frustrated that it didn't get one.
Like it or not, the iPad is still the best consumer slate computing device available today. Not even one of the android tablets comes anywhere close, blackberry's is a business tool (of sorts), certainly not a consumer device..and whilst the windows tablets have been around for many many years, they have never taken off in the consumer market as they are too big/heavy/technical. This will hopefully change when android 3.0 comes out, and someone skins it nicely for a tablet..but it's not here yet. The iPad needs some competition.
I own lots of apple kit (iphone, mac air, mac pro, ipod) but I don't own an ipad..as to me its just a giant iphone with less features, and whilst the touch interface is great, it's completely useless for data input. My mac air is just as portable but its a veyr quick machine with a good keyboard..twice the price though i guess.
It will sell very well, make apple even richer and will also make many people happy, I see nothing wrong with that.
Apple Fanboys and Apple hate-boys are two sides of the same coin...
It's a product, by a manufacturer, that will be priced as high as the manufacturer thinks it can get away with. Some people will like it and buy it and some others will not.
Negative publicity is still publicity and Apple hate-boys are simply fuelling the Apple marketing inferno. Happy?
