Keep up the folding guys, we can so do this!
Fold on!
If anyone needs any help setting up (should you decide to help) or general questions, don't hesitate to ask, we're a friendly (but, of course, quite geeky) bunch
That's quite impressive. I stopped folding long ago due to problems constantly arising. I just don't have the time to sit around and fix a program I am using voluntarily. Updates to the program also ground to a halt at the time...
Anyway I've found something much better, where you can choose what you contribute to. You are not locked in to the medical industry.
It's called BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing). I'm using it to support AQUA@home and MilkyWay@home.
Hexus should consider creating a team for BOINC projects as well. Quite a lot easier to use and has more features like automatically stopping work while you are using the PC with timer settings(I use 5 minute idle time).
I found DDY's instructions (salvaged from page 2 of folding chit-chat) very easy to use to set up the client:
Thought it might save people trawling through the 50 page thread...Quick step by step guide to set up SMP:
1) Download SMP client here
2) Unzip in to folder with write permissions, e.g. C:/Users/David/FAH
3) Right click on the Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe and select create shortcut
4) Right click new shortcut and click properties
5) In the target box, type "-configonly" right at the end without quotes, click ok
6) Launch shortcut
7) Enter info as normal, answer yes to change advanced options
8) Keep hitting enter (unless you want to change other settings) until you get to "Additonal client parameters", here enter "-smp" without quotes
9) Keep hitting enter and the window would eventually disappear
10) Delete shortcut
11) Run Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe
Perswaded me to start folding again, but gonna have to download core temp, since last time my CPU was reaching scary tempratures (100'C and throttling) eeek.
Also does any one know if it is possible to limit the GPU usage on the GPU client?
It is possible. There's a slider in options.
My numbers have been a bit low since Christmas, however well done to all, Fold on!
We're going to be 2 million points short at the end of Feb so if there is anyone out there who is tempted to try folding, this is the time to start!
