Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond
I don't agree with the approach of "their previous games were poor so that makes it ok to pirate future games". In truth I hate pirates as piracy cannot fail to be hurting the industry to at least a certain extent.
That said, I can imagine the appeal of wanting to have the latest hot title earlier than your mates for the "e-peen". Maybe that's a driving factor in this instance, despite its obviously incomplete state.
Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond
Let's focus on what's actually happened though - rather than turning it into a wider debate on piracy. Obviously here it's not the main issue - what's more relevant is the damage it does to the *perception* of what the game's like - i.e. buggy, graphics not very good, not polished - which could be worlds away from the final build (not a stretch given what crytek have publicly stated in the Edge article). Sure people are being dicks by distributing it but it's all got to have started back at crytek hq where somebody either deliberately or otherwise let the build into the wild.
I'd wager if you liked Crysis (and loads of people did) you'll be waiting for the final build - as to whether you then buy said.. well that's up to your own morality. Personally, I'm partly buying it because I really want to support Crytek (obviously mostly because I loved the originals) because I think there's few 'boundary pushing' developers left as is.
I do hope Crytek tell us what went on - but it's fairly unlikely we'll ever learn the details.

Games in the future are all going to have problems like this. With how popular gaming is and the money involved, leaked games are a thing of the future. :(
