Looks like an inside job. Sigh. Bloody pirates. Moronic posters.
I'll be paying for my copy, programmers need to eat too.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond

Already preordered - the build is borked in many ways, not least of all in that everything's locked at 'medium' and there are serious bugs in the code (so I read). I CBA to play or download it in that state and i've no idea why anyone else does (but then I don't understand people who watch 'screeners' captured via videocameras in cinemas either).

Sadly this is an internal fault - and somebody needs firing as a result!

Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond

I'd have thought nowadays there would be good ways to find the source of leaks? I suppose being internal rather than a review copy that it would be more difficult in this instance though?

Pop a tiny serial number somewhere on a texture, invisible to the naked eye but that could easily be seen in a viewer, et voila, your source! (yes, I know there are many problems with this thinking! )

I agree somewhat with the rants regarding PC demos, not that it's an excuse to leak but it's a fair point!

I'll be buying it (PC) if the reviews are good. If not then I'll pick it up in 6months time for a tenner

That's the approach I'm always taking, hard to justify paying the full price on the release day...

Wish I'd have pre-ordered for <£15 from the EA store that time though!

What BS in the article about "...no demo... blah blah...". That doesnt give you the right to illegally download it now. Wait for some reviews then you moron. There are more than enough review and HW sites that will let you know how it will play/run.

Posters like that make me angry and portray PC in a bad light. Sad thing is I guess is that people like that are getting more and more now... So many people feel they have a right to certain things, for no other reason than if not then its someone else not being fair. Makes my blood boil.

I was kinda of peeved with the lack of PC demo also, but i totally agree with jonathan _phang that gives no foundation to the gaming being leaked for illegal download, i loved the first one and will be buying when its released.

Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond

agreed with most posts here, the stupid posters that think they should have a demo clearly havent followed any news about crysis2... as dangel(i think?) pointed out an interview which shows pretty much how crytek havent shafted us.

I was annoyed with no demo but at the same time i think, demos take a bit of time to make and so if they wasted time on that they may have missed out on sorting out some bugs etc. Also remember didnt they have like 2 development teams for PC and then consoles? that would also explain why it was just on one thing .

Watermarking is used by some studios, and extensively in the movie industry..but sadly it doesn't work as its far too easy to get around. Developers/studios all too often put the same watermark throughout, or use the same techniques..and once you figure out where it is/how it's done, its childsplay to patch the entire codebase to remove it. To do a proper job on copy protection would take nearly as much time as producing the game..despite all the moaning it's actually not worth the money. F.A.D.E is still the best attempt I have seen, and it lasted a while, simply because it was spread through the code like a virus..was just a shame that it still had a "head" that could be chopped off to disable it.

I suspect that this was either an internal leak or from a hack (ala HL2) due to the beta nature of the code - or it could have been from a preview event with lax security..either way it sucks for everyone - it ruins the final experience for many gamers who download it, and of course its a bit of a crisis for crytek (sorry, had to be done )

Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond

i don't understand where people got the idea that EA/Crytek are trying to blame the PC community for the leak? My understanding of their statement doesn't give that across at all, it sounds more like them urging people to wait and pay for the full release which is entirely reasonable.

90% of the people who have replied to the blog are stupid self-entitled thinking their moaning will solve a problem when infact it only makes it worse.

I agree - people seem to be reading what they want to rather than what's there in Crytek's statement. Obviously the fault lies with them, but then it's being compounded by muppets sharing the broken game (which I can't understand at all - it's borked!).

Re: News - Crysis 2 leaked - EA and Crytek respond

I can sort of understand it. I thought Crysis was rubbish, and I can't even be bothered to finish Warhead because it's so dull. I would be extremely hesitant to buy Crysis 2 for any more than about £5.

Nonetheless, I've got no intention of trying to obtain it by any means other than a Steam demo or Steam sale.
