Oh dear, once again Mozilla lash out as they are beaten to the post once again, if they spent as much time actually working on FF4 final instead of bitching and moaning about how other companies are doing a better job than they are then we might actually see a working browser instead of beta after beta and a browser still with the bloat that plagues version 3.x
The other issue I have with FF 4 is how they are shouting from the roof tops that they have this and that. It's essentially Chrome with a different UI and more bloat :/ I know Google fund the majority of Mozilla but that doesn't mean they have to copy it near enough, even down to the "new synch" features xD
I hadnt really noticed, i like FF but its just way to slow and unreliable, for me it constantly crashes and just lags out lol. I didnt really like chrome with the idea they just capture every bit of data, IE seems a bit better in looks and works just as good as chrome.
That, to me, translates as:-"We spent much time researching and looking at what developers are building today and what they want to build tomorrow to define what we build in Internet Explorer 9 today," it reportedly said.
"We used that research to inform our view of HTML5 and the pieces that matter most to designers and developers in building these next set of experiences on the Web. In terms of HTML5 defined, it remains a combination of what developers will want to do and the definitions set forth by the W3C as the ultimate authority in defining standards for the Web," Microsoft apparently added.
"As always, we here at M$ know exactly what we want you to be doing with the intarwebs so we're only allowing you to do precisely that !"
Embrace.
Extend.
Extinguish.
We are the Borg, resistance is futile.
...stopped reading there. Zzzzz Welcome to the new millennium btw
Like it or not (and I don't use IE) MS have leaped forwards on standards support and I have to admit IE9 (RC) is quite good. FF I abandoned some time back because it was far too slow and lardy (especially on low powered systems) - although I hear better things about FF4 I worry it's a bit late for them with such strong competition.
It doesn't work that well for me (which I suppose is exactly why it's still only an RC) - I've had a couple of crashes from it. And it complaining on every startup about the MSN/Live toolbar it inherited from IE8 is a bit annoying.
On the other hand, when it does crash it's only the one instance that goes down (even had it where a single tab went unresponsive), the rest stays working and IE seems to recover quite quickly.
Can't comment on FF4 because I'm still using FF3 - in fact I switch between FF3 and Chrome for my main browsing, IE is definitely used only when I have to. But that's probably because I use a Linux desktop a lot more than my new Windows7 one.
Mozilla have lost a bit of my respect for stooping to "name calling" - far more interesting (to me at least) is that, according to the article, MS' claim of superior HTML5 is based solely on the bits that they decided to implement. So they've got 100% coverage of the bits that they like! Naughty Redmond!. If Mozilla had focussed totally on that (and left out the "our browser is shinier than yours" rubbish) then I would have probably agreed with them.
Got to say that I think browsers are all starting to resemble each other - but I really do like that cloudsync feature of Chrome.
I have nearly stopped using FF for the same reasons as everyone else - it's now slow. Use Chrome normally but impressed by IE9. Having said that, FF is still my default browser for 2 reasons:
Print Preview. Doesn't exist on ChromeSort it out google! Ironically using IE tab simulator add-on in Chrome is the best work around I've read for using print preview!
Bookmarks tree & Xmarks. Call me old fashioned but I still like a well structured bookmarks tree and I found the initially hidden one in Chrome confusing vs using the native one in FF + xmarks to sort out all my bookmarks reliably. (Ok just looking now I see Chrome is more straightforward than I remembered)
FF 4 beta is significantly faster but tab mix plus add-on not working with it yetThis is also a great add-on for firefox where I like the high level of customisation available.
Still using FF & have done for many years now, is IE9 really that good?
I only find FF3 to be slow if you get careless with which extentions you install. Keep them down to only the ones you actually need/use, and it's nice and fast. That said, I would jump ship to Chrome in a heartbeat if they would only implement a bloomin' master password feature!
Anyone know if FF4/IE9 are going to be multi-threaded? (Is this what web-workers are?)
Firefox has been my go-to browser for years but I have to admit I'm starting to get tired of some of its foibles. Chrome is so much faster but as yet still hasn't ironed out all its important bugs (like proper session token handling). While I use it on my laptop for speed, my desktop still has FF, with all my favourite extensions. I just put up with the lack of speed...for now...[eyes Opera icon]
Why not use LastPass?

Actually, I already have LastPass installed, but I've always been a bit wary of these extensions that send your account details to the cloud, so I never really used it. What I didn't appreciate until reading up on it just now, is that everything is encrypted locally, so that makes it much more appealing. This could see me swapping![]()
