Re: News - HTC grabs top 3 spots in best mobile chart

Is there any news on whether the corporate world is moving away from RIM ? They still seem to tbe the defacto standard in business.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Not surprised to be fair. They are exploding recently, with no signs of stopping.

As for the corporate world moving away from RIM. I should hope so. But if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Again, not surprised. HTC desire is an awesome phone, and HTC's Sense UI additions seem to add rather than subtract from the whole Android experience, based on what little I've seen of other manufacturers android phones.

On consumer side, HTC will keep roaring away as they just keep making new models that cater for all OSs. HTC Sense is pretty good too.

On corporate side, I would be interested at how WP7 and Microsoft will affect RIM's market.

Not exactly surprising. It's a price comparison site - its users want cheap deals. The iPhone isn't exactly known as a cost-conscious choice - there's not much room for manoeuvre in contract prices, and it's practically impossible to get a free handset.

You need to look at the site's audience before claiming that Apple has 'cause to be worried'. I highly doubt that this will worry Apple very much.

Unfortunately I agree with you, it's sad but true.

The iPhone should never have sold as well as it has, but it's a status symbol(as stupid as they are) and people battle to look past that.

What I would say is that for utility, HTC is the obvious choice over Apple. People with good technical knowledge value utility, they aren't bothered with the status of an item.

Re: News - HTC grabs top 3 spots in best mobile chart

Believe me this will worry Apple..

I've got the HTC Wildfire and just love it.

Apples market is shrinking not only in units sold, but also in products the consumer is willing to purchase.

Apple sell a range of hand held products which overlap functionality and therefore compete with each other.

IMO, in a couple of years time they will all merge into one product, but just offered in different sizes.

Therefore I can't see how apple will be able to continue competing at its current level, it is a shame as they are a great innovator.

Totally have to disagree with you there. HTC is more like that than Apple.

Right now, Apple already makes one product (with good and crappy features) forcing/encouraging people to keep upgrading.

I don't think you got my point, apple sell iphone, ipod, itouch, shuffle and of course the ipad, and all these are basically merging into one product. They will soon all support virtually the same functionality and be based on the same technology, they just need to be sold in different sizes to suit what the consumer needs. 10inch for Home, 7inch for the Office, 4 inch for a mobile, 2 inch for down the gym or going for a jog.

If this does happen, and I think its an inevitability, will Apple be able to make their product stand out from the crowd enough to enable them to charge a hefty premium and keep them on the crest of the wave?

But they all require different hardware and have different features - how can you say they'll all just be different sizes of the same product? 10" and 7" tablets, and possibly the ipod touch, granted, if they ever release a 7" tablet. But tablets don't have phone capabilities, and can you imagine trying to use one as a phone? Doable, but it would require a handsfree kit, and far less portability - a tablet will never replace a phone, so that's two distinct product categories already. Shuffle - designed to be cheap, amongst other things, and therefore feature-bereft by design. Again, a different category from other products, and one that makes no sense to merge.

And Apple is hardly known for being innovative. They popularise technology, they don't innovate.

Also, the number of units they are selling is increasing, and they have more product categories now than they have ever had in the past - and really only the ipod touch and iphone can be considered superfluous (i.e. if you have an iphone, little/no point in an ipod touch).

I feel your idea of merging into one product is not because of Apple but the industry as a whole. It is based on consumer's trends and expectations.

Yes Apple will always make their product stand out because they spend so much on creating the hype and marketing. You will also note that they always add one "newish" feature which they overhype alot (despite the fact that their products aren't feature packed).
