    Disappointing graphics card selection.
Even the 555m is rubbish. Even the old 260m scores better.

considering the likes of msi, asus, sager etc can do it for the same price... yeah!

    notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

the refreshed XPS 17's graphical power (550m) isn't even ahead of the previous XPS 17's! (445m)

460m, 480m and 485m should have been options rather than skipping to the 500 series just because it sounds newer..

Re: News - Dell launches updated XPS notebooks

MSI's GX660R can be found for around 900 quid nowadays I think.
Outdated i5 cpu, but the 5870m gpu is amazing. 6gb memory, 1tb 7,200rpm, full hd led display.
Same cost as the new XPS configured with extra memory and gpu upgrade.

Should be refreshed to include 6870 and new i7 sandy bridge but I reckon that will be too expensive.

Re: News - Dell launches updated XPS notebooks

the XPS 17 is available to UK consumers now with prices starting at £649 for a basic specification
Looks to me once you up the CPU to a mid-range i5, the RAM to 6GB, the screen to full HD and the graphics to the 555m, the price sky-rockets to far more than £900. And that's without a couple of other choice upgrades like the HDD (currently a 320GB).

Windows® . Life without WallsTM . Dell recommends Windows 7.

So if what fadeaway has said about other laptops price/spec wise is true, yes it would seem like these are a tad overpriced!

Re: News - Dell launches updated XPS notebooks

Definitely interested in the XPS15. I'll wait two weeks, and if there is still no sign of a Sandy Bridge update of the Envy, then I'll go for the XPS. It's a well rounded laptop and I like the fact that it's got al the connectivity I am looking for in a modern laptop.

A useful all-round bump in specification, but we were hoping for a sexier makeover now that the Adamo has been put to rest.
If a sexier make over result in a price premium, I'd rather pass on that. My electronics are tools, not fashion accessories (and I'll add that goes for my iPhone too).
