All I can say is OUCH!
A pair of HD6970 2GB cards are around £550 to £560 at least so the HD6990 4GB cards at under £550 are not too overpriced in comparison.

still overpriced!
its only overpriced if your not on the bleeding edge.....
US market
$699 = £432.9
that's so unfair
us has not vat, you go there buy it for £432.
tbh thinking that for the money saving you can prob get a plane ticket to pick it up there your self
You have to pay VAT, that is, if you do the right thing and declare it; there's zero import duty, but, 20% VAT.
US price includes TAX for US citizens so what makes them cheaper then us? we don't get this stuff from USA we get it from Asia like they do. Are our distributors so greedy?
czos you are ignoring about a million variables.
for a start due to the market you might be able to sell more of those cards in america therefore you can have a tigther profit margin.
The cost of overheads could be totally different:
For example the wage you can pay people in U.S might be less than the minimum wage in Britain.
Transportation might cost less (petrol prices import duties etc etc etc)
Basically there are a lot reasons why prices fluctuate drastically in countries.
But you are right to a certain extent: having a larger market in the US makes things ultimately more competitive so people can't get away with inflated prices.
