Apple's tagline is there's an app for that, but one of my favourite comedia one liners is...
There's no app for loneliness
I think you'll find there is

Hmm, I don't understand why people think that way, that the iTat series gives them some soft of prestige. I just see them and think, yep, just another one been pulled in by the marketing and been fleeced...
On the other hand, I see someone with a HTC or a Blackberry, etc and think they've done some research before buying it and got it based on features, not just as a shiny thing.

enless they brought the blackberry storm thing, in that case they failed at research.

TBH you can't assume someone's thought about it by what phone they get - if it comes with a contract that they can afford and looks shiny then that's enough for most. At least until they get it and are disappointed for the next 24 months, when they do the same thing again, with no research, again.
I think liking a product products because of the advertisement make as much sense as hating a product because of it. Those 'practical reasons' really ought to be the much higher % reason for buying* / not buying a product.
* There is still the gadget factor. Sure a lot of people are struggling at the moment, but a lot of people have much more discretionary allowance than the £500-600 to splash on a HD6990, or if they choose like it, an iPhone (in reality, if you were going to for a smartphone anyway, it's just an additional £100-200 additional discretionary allowance.
How many iWhatever person have you seen whip out their iWhatever, and asked you directly if you are impressed with it? As you've said, millions of people, including "old fogies" have these, and the majority of the demographic are as smug as you make them, then it ought to be a daily occurrence.
I know plenty of iPhone users, the majority seem happy with their devices, a few aren't, but I have never seen a single one of us trying to "impress". Unless you think that every iWhatever users should keep their device in their bags/pocket never taking them out in public in fear of 'showing off'.

Well, I only viewed one of the adverts. Pretty uninspiring stuff, but not a whole lot worse than 95% of adverts out there. It can still get worse though ("I am an iPhone, I am an Android").
Still, I have a (very old) iPhone, and I have plenty of money in my pocket (I paid hardly more than most candybar mobile at the time, contract free).
I have an iPhone, and I know what Android is (it's that thing that did not exist when I bought my iPhone). Heck, I also talked a prospective iPhone buyer into getting the Wildfire. That doesn't change the fact that I'll wait for the iPhone 5 before deciding whether to jump ship though.
I have an iPhone, now will you please have the courtesy of not judging / insulting me us for that?
Thank you
/Monthly anti-Apple bashing rant over (when will I learn that it's as endless as thread on religions and piracy). Ironically, I only ever find out about Apple advertisements because it's talked on Hexus.

You've taken what I said out of context. The last line in my post was largely irrelevant but the 'etc' was important - I just mean if I see someone with something other than an iPhone I just think they've put some thought into it. I'm FAR from biased, believe me. I actually own a Nokia 6131 and have done so for years, I have no need for a smartphone, or anything more than something which makes phone calls and sends messages TBH.
What I mean is there is far less advertising and general buzz around competing products, and for someone to buy one means they have strayed from the default, if you catch my drift. In the context of my post I don't mean one is better than the other, I'm just talking about popularity and near-sightedness.
I mean I don't like Apple stuff but that's irrelevant...
But I don't really see how not liking a single product is ignorant and biased?
So now you're not only judging people by the equipment they use, you also realise that you don't even have the need for the equipment. Why not comment about every other item in the world that you don't have a need for. Have you seen how many Ford focus cars were sold, maybe you should go post some useless diatribe on their site too.
Yeah fair enough, I don't mean everyone who does research will end up with something other than an iPhone, it's what some people are after.
It's just like how if you wanted a fast PC and didn't do research you'd probably go into PC World, leave £1200 poorer and with a PC containing last years mid-range hardware. If someone has researched and ended up with that then fair enough...
Get a grip. Where have I said anything about what people need? I said about my 6131 so people could see I wasn't defending some smartphone I owned for example.
Edit: reading through my post again I can't actually see anything that could be interpreted to justify such a hostile/defensive response? Nothing was meant that way. Care to explain?
Remember the whole Mac vs the others adverts??
Apple seem to think it is fine to ridicule other companies products so TBH I personally think it is fine if anyone else feels the need to do the same for their products.
It is a good thing you have never met the smug Apple users who tend to smirk at anyone who uses a PC and considers a PC hard to use,not secure and unreliable. I even have had comments on why I am still using a PC FFS.

My mates like that, as soon as he got an Imac he wont shut up about how good the mac OS is and apple is as a whole... however he cant play all of his games and sometimes its does crash! Yet he just trys to ignore and justify those issues lol...
Companies that just constantly try to insult other companies shouldnt be allowed to advertise... all the mac vs pc adverts were bs and the same goes for this lol.
Oh well, buy whatever... if i had the cash id buy another HD2 or a new high end pc but again thats my preference hehe.
