whats wrong with a laptop? serious what is the point of a tablet nevermind a bigger screen version of my ipod touch.

lack of keyboard. no true OS loaded on most tablets, have to hold the blooming tablet at an angle to watch movies on.

I mean the tablet has its advantages, most notably the touch experience. And the form factor is pretty good (i.e. easier to carry around while it is on).

But to pay as much as a good laptop just to get the touch experience and form factor is a bit much I think.

why is touching the screen better then mouse and keyboard? Ok maybe as a mouse its good to use a touch screen but for keyboard and gaming input? hell no.

What are the differences between ipad 1 and 2? it doesnt seem to be any striking differences between the two.

They could have added glass free 3d to it. that would be a great reason to upgrade from a ipad 1 to a number 2.

Also, if you use a tablet to read books, nothing beats a amazon kindle. more portable and better battery life

SO when would you use it if not when your out and about? if your just using it at home or at work, why is it better to use a ipad then your pc/laptop at home/work?

The point of using a tablet and a mobile smartphone is when your away from your desk at home/work. not to use it while your at home/work.

who here browsing hexus on there mobile phones/tablets when there at home/work instead of using there pc's?

Casual use while watching the TV, playing on the computer, at my parents or other people's houses, etc.

I'm at work and I'm browsing Hexus on my phone as we speak! It would be subject to disciplinary action here to use the Internet for personal use during work's time!

Not using a mouse means you can do stuff on your lap or sofa - just like a phone. You can use the tablet for really little things but need a bigger screen. You can carry it around at home and play with it on your lap as the form factor is pretty good. I think I would use it around the home.

But to me, there is no way iPad is worth £559 for a 64gb model. It's like getting those uber expensive Sony P Series netbooks that fits into your back pocket.

Not using a mouse means you can do stuff on your lap or sofa - just like a phone.

Nothing wrong with a touch pad, except that it takes up real estate. The ipad is only scren, no 'wasted' space for a touchpad. So the same advantages as a touch screen smart phone, maximum display area in the form factor. And it makes for a lighter device.

Yea but form factor is much better as the whole thing is a touchpad. The format is a slate so much better than trying to balance a laptop while you are moving around on the sofa.

You can carry iPad around with you with ease, no backpacks involved..

The iPad in a case is no worse than carrying a hard back book around. It's certainly very doable, and definitely more so than carrying a laptop.

It may not be worse than carrying a hard back book, but it isn't any better. Which means you really want to get the sucker in a bag. I wouldn't carry a paperback around all day without a bag, yet alone a hard back. It's not the weight, it's just annoying.

This is why a phone is good, it goes in a pocket.

I'm sure most people probably do carry it around in a bag, my point was that it isn't massively inconvenient to carry it around in just a case.
