Bit of a standard setup for the $900, they need to put in some sort of dedicated graphics card.

Wonder if its backwards compatible with the old tapes and discs!!!

What's the point in a BluRay drive in a Linux box?

Doesn't do it for me I'm afraid - I grew up with an Amstrad CPC6128 so my nostalgic loyalty lies elsewhere. Anyone remember the 3" double sided disks 178k per side?

I really can't see the point of this... I suppose not being 15 and addicted to Elite and Beach Head any longer probably doesn't help.

(To clarify, I owned a C64, then Amiga 500, then Amiga 1200. Ahhh, Amiga. [/nostalgic sighs])

    From the 1st link:

NB: Most commercial Blu-Ray are protected by AACS or BD+ technologies and this library is not enough to playback those discs.

    Front the 2nd link:

NB: this project doesn't offer any key or certificate that could be used to decode encrypted copyrighted material.

It's my understanding that the BluRay patent holders have a stranglehold on the technologies to playback Bluray, and no one wants to be the first to put their head over the parapet.

Quite a lot of fun, there I think, as long as you realise you are paying for styling as much as with a macbook.

I think they'd be great in pubs and things, for cybercafe use. A good laugh. Along with

Second link addresses first link. And getting a hold of the keys is rather trival. CSS on DVDs have the same legal bits protecting it as bluray, nobody pays attention to it, either.

That's fine by me. I reckon there are around 2 films a year worth watching, so I don't need one.

What ever did happen to Commodore's 'comeback' into the gaming PC market a few years back? There was loads of talk about them and then they seemed to disappear.

Yeah, it was all going so well. They'd planned their moves, started to get the ball rolling, unfortunately just as they were about to launch the presentation the screen flashed up with "read error b - please rewind and try again"

Sadly the media weren't prepared to wait the 2.5 hours for the tape to rewind and reload so nothing ever came of it...

so its the equivalent, with slightly better graphics, to a dual core atom netbook with no screen but offset agianst having a blu ray (i assume reader only), a 1tb hdd and 4gb not 1gb of ram

if they priced it around the same cost as a decent dual core atom netbook then fair enough and put the entire c64 game romset as a trivia to entice customers, then buy your own choice of screen.

I've still got an original shape C64! Could do this for the fraction of price - It would just be wiring up the keyboard that would be tricky!
