Guess it comes down to price. The 5850 can still hold it own against the newer cards quite well.

OcUK have had these models on sale for a while. The HD5850 1GB also has a shorter 8.5" PCB too.

Pixmania have them at £98. £9 postage. Unfortunately I don't hear good things about them.

EDIT: review at overclockers club. Can't see the charts due to not having the plugins at work. AFAIK If the 5850 overclocks to 6870 speeds (i.e. 880) it will be faster.

Re: News - Sapphire revisits HD 5800 series with two new SKUs

Here are some reviews of the cards:

    http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...hd5830_xtreme/

    http://www.kitguru.net/components/gr...ew-crossfirex/

    http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...hd5830_hd5850/

    Edit!!

According to the Kit Guru review the HD5830 should cost around £80 and the HD5850 around £100. However,it seems the HD5830 uses a PCB based on the one found in an HD6870 and the HD5850 PCB seems to based on an HD6850 PCB. It looks like the HD5850 has relatively limited overclocking ability although the shorter PCB means it will fit in more cases.

Only thing is they sort of crumble when you stick some tessellation their way.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I've got a 5850 at 1GHz on water and it's probably the best value card I've ever owned - even after the cost of the water block.

I was thinking of updating my 4870 (512mb version) to either the 5850 or 6850 - I don't want to spend more than £150 as I don't play many games any more.

I know the 5850 has more raw power, but I feel the 6850 would give me more features over time and holds its own.

The Sapphire HD5850 1GB is around £100 though! Also looking at the Unigine results the HD6850 1GB is around 10% faster at higher tessellation levels. However, the HD5850 1GB ends up faster than an HD6850 1GB in most current DX11 games and this includes Metro 2033.

At around £150 I would be looking at an HD6870 1GB. A few weeks ago Scan had an Asus HD6870 1GB for around £156. You can also get an HD5870 1GB for around this price too.

These could potentially fly, got my 5850 to 1ghz on an upgraded air cooler.

As other have said the 5850 is an amazing card, I really feel no need to upgrade it.
