Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

Saw some pictures of this earlier and didnt think much of it, the tech spec however is much more appealing..
Not too sure about the power requirements of having it dual core, the normal 1Ghz single core snap dragon seems to be plenty fast enough for most tasks..

Definitely tempted by this, I think I'll be waiting for the reviews, and user comments before splashing out though.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

Guessing this is in theory the replacement for the Desire HD. Now considering HTC haven't really got the power to battery life ratio nailed down with their phones, I'd hate to think how long this thing will last in a day... Maybe 3 hours of good use.

Specs look very tempting. I can make my desire HD slow and lag quite easily. If I use internet radio, multi tasking is quite slow.

Is this the reason Samsung bumped the SII up to 1.2Ghz too? I like the higher resolution screen though, looks-wise, so so I guess.

question is, with a dual core, how long does the battery last? a few hours?

Yeh, shame the SGS2 doesn't have a qHD amoled screen... think I'll be getting this HTC in June/July

maybe this can be the upgrade for my venerable HD2 ... Still thinking about the LG 3d phone though, that could be good.

Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

The battery is a larger capacity one than the Desire HD, for example. I'm guessing doubling the number of cores doesn't come close to halving the battery life though.

I'll see how this pans out and might even consider upgrading.. we'll see

Well, I've been itching for a new phone for a while now, so quite looking forward to a head to head between all the new dual cores once they're out.

Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

Larger capacity battery and maybe a die shrink at the same time, so we could be looking at something that'll do the same things as existing units, but faster and with an extra half a day's worth of power perhaps?

Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

The main power user on most handsets is the screen, then the radio module. Unless you are playing games or hammering the processor all the time, you are unlikely to see a significant increase in power usage with dual cores. After all, it can do more work in the same time, so in theory, to run the same tasks, you are looking at about half the processing time, and with better core design, this can mean less power for the same task

Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

spot on funkstar, in theory atleast .

I think the battery in this is ~300mA larger than the HD2 so it could be more. Can anyone tell me if this has amoled display? Or is it using a basic(average) lcd display? Hoping it looks better than my hd2 (which isnt bad but id want something better not just a higher res)

According to the spec list it's a 4.3 inch, 540x960 SLCD screen, with Gorilla Glass.

And that MSM 8260 is confirmed.

Re: News - HTC launches the dual-core Snapdragon Sensation

hmm well that should be an improvement over the hd2 then as that was just a tn type panel iirc, SLCD is essentially a PVA panel right?.

Looking at dimensions it seems to improved little on the hd2 design, the hd2 is thinner by 0.3mm shorter by 5.6mm and wider by 1.6mm, not sure if they are better dimensions but we shall see.
