Looks like they might be closing in on Sony Vegas, with that even if it did surpass Vegas I wouldn't be happy paying apple premium tax on my hardware.

    Closing in on vegas?

I have been building broadcast systems for a while now and i have not put Sony Vegas into a single one however FCP and Avid are everywhere.

    Vegas is for amateurs.

In response Avid have announced Media Composer for $995 for any FCP users for a limited time !

Selling it up as "part of the toolbox" alongside FCP

hahaha, how little you know. Shows how many news setups you put together. Many newsrooms in the US use Vegas for its speed and versatility, many mainstream features that get cut on Avid secretly do their audio on Vegas but keep it quiet since there are very compelling 'political' pressures to do so. Blah, blah, blah.

Anyway, FWIW I find it pretty funny how many 'features' in the new FCP are in and have been in Vegas for YEARS. Gotta laugh. And when Apple finally puts it on their site, no doubt they'll use words like 'ground breaking' and 'revolutionary' for those same features. They did last time, for sure

One can never stop saying Thank You

Our out of date client list, i think you will find a fair few news systems in there

If Sony is the systems integrator they are likely to push the Sony suite. Otherwise people go for Apple/Avid.

Hehe yeah before my time unfortunately, apparently wiremen where queuing up to get on that one! Lets hope they choose TSL when they go HD

Im actually working on a news system right now and that's Avid likely to move to Apple in the near future.
