It looks like Seagate will buy them:

Most of my desktop 3.5" hard drives are made by Samsung so it looks like I will be switching over to Western Digital now.
Sorry, but why bother mentioning the ipad in the title ? A tenuous link at best.
With WD recently buying Hitachi in march, there may soon be only 2 major HDD manufacturers: Seagate and WD
[edit] oh and toshiba!
"Samsung Deep Throat" - I guess that has a different meaning in the states...?
And I wonder how long are Tosh going to be available, or are they looking for a buyer too? After all, if Hitachi and Samsung - both I'd argue larger presences than Toshiba - can't make it work, then what chance does (relatively) tiny Toshiba stand?
I don't understand what's meant here - surely if you're not a business leader then logically you must be a "follower". Or is the Samsung source responsible for this quote trying to say that Sammy have been walking around in circles all this time?[Samsung] is neither a follower or a leader in the business, and it's making a loss
I thought Samsung had more or less grabbed the lower-end "value for money" segment - certainly the ones I've bought (including the rather nice 1TB laptop drive I've got sitting next to me at the moment) have been cheaper than the WD alternatives.
I'm tempted to say that the reduction in choice is a bad day for us consumers, but then I suppose that this is counter-balanced by the price-pressure in the SSD market that a focussed Samsung could bring. A 300GB SSD for £120 would be sweet...
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
That's very bad news. Samsung make the quietest Hard drives and their Hrad drives are the fastest after Velociraptors.
Why are they making loss???? Seagate and WD sell their drives for the same price.
