Well, there goes the Linux port. Looks like this'll finally give me the push to switch over to SIP.

Re: News - Microsoft set to buy Skype for $8 billion

Is it just me, or is the timing of this fishy.

One day after a remote execution bug is publicised in Skype on mac it is set to become an MS product

Automatically opening stuff you send, yup sounds like windows 95.

I honestly can't see what benefit this gives in UC for the enterprise: they already have Lync (formerly Office Communicator) for that. To me this is almost entirely all about WP7 and the customer base for the online app.

Possible tech use/cross use for Xbox LIVE as well?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Yeah, just read a story exploring the potential of Skype + Kinect - fair point.

Re: News - Microsoft set to buy Skype for $8 billion

Have to say I'm struggling to understand the logic for this one, or the price (given what Skype sold for not long ago).

It seems like a last ditch attempt by Microsoft to make headway online... and throwing money at it seems to be their answer.

I'd guess the shares are going to go down, when the markets in the US open in a little while.

No - it's a new dawn, Microsoft embracing the open source concept! (although the Skype app wasn't open source as such).

Not sure how this will sit in with Live messenger tbh (except Skype does things a bit better). Expensive acquisition just to kill off competition.

Microsoft with a dollar sign? Is this 1999? Are we going to start joking at how bad 95 pre OSR2 was?

The simplist thing to say they've done differently is WP7, their previous mobile platform was years ahead, I'm almost tempted to say a decade ahead compared to how long it took andriod or iOS to catch up. But they had tried to replicate their 95 interface and keep the ux the same. Bit of a mistake.

So they refresh with the Metro UI design team, which is quite frankly brilliantly simple, realising that you no longer get impressed by having a glass effect on a button, the designers put emphasis on the data that is relevent making it much easier and faster to use.

Such a different design concept I've never seen fully pushed by a mainstream technology firm. Like it or loath it, they are fully behind it and its clearly shaping the way people design user interaction.

But then again if your the kind of person whom uninstalls skype because MS might buy it, then your kind of missing the point of skype as a means to communicate with friends. I doubt I could be bothered to convince everyone I know who uses it to jump ship just because I don't like them anymore..... Oh and a REALLLY hate skype btw. Why the fornication does it want to put a crappy DOM slowing plugin into my browser without even asking, why for the love of god why!?
