"But T-Mobile, and especially Orange, lagged a fair bit behind the rest. The two of them have, of course, combined their UK operations."
Unfortunately we're still waiting for the 'everything everywhere' to get their act together, as they still haven't managed to merge there 3G networks!
I have to say I'm more than happy with the speeds I get on Orange (in Gloucestershire area) and find that I usually have a 3G or HSDPA signal when friends on O2 or Vodafone don't. There are still areas of limited coverage, but this is where the partnership with T-Mobile pays off... Ok, So 3G roaming is not yet supported but it's a great start...
I'd rather have wider 3G support that Orange provides over O2 / Voda than necessarily the fastest speeds... Most of the time I am looking for fast speeds I am in range of a wi-fi network anyway..
