Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
Let's hope they've fixed firefox back to the way it should be. I've had nothing but trouble from firefox 4, one of the worst browsers I've had...:puke:
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
It seems like most of the world's most respected software developers have forgotten how to properly version number their software, these days.
<major release>.<minor release>.<revision release>
A handful of bug fixes is not a major release. It arguably wouldn't even be a minor release if they weren't adding a those couple of new features.
Madness.

Yay!! A version number epeni contest!! Because that\'s going to improve software quality!
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
I just hope they fix font rendering. I can\'t bear to use FF4 on a large screen, although it seems OK on smaller ones.

I blame Google :(
All they were doing was trying to catch up with IE versions.. how could they see this coming?

Are you sure about that? I've seen all manner of version schemes used. Major-as-release is silly but still valid. It only really becomes worthy of mockery when you alter your version scheme as a marketing tool to yell "HEY IM STILL HERE TOO!" It's sad and desperate.
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
FF4 performs very badly on our Windows 2008 server. Chrome surprisingly performed the best.
Will be interesting on whether FF5 is as fast...

No, I'm not sure - I just think I vaguely remember reading that some months ago when they announced their new release schedule.

Disabling hardware acceleration in the options will fix that.
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
Will Firefox cease to be a RAM hog?
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
I notice they pushed the x64 version back to Firefox 6... <sigh>

I know but hardware acceleration is useful for stuff other that font rendering - you shouldn't have to disable a fundamental part of the browser to make it usable.
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
Maybe Firefox 5 implies tacit acceptance that FF4 is their Vista ..... i.e wait for W7 to get what it should have been in the first place.
Re: News - Firefox 5 heading your way
The iffy fonts is a windows problem, not a firefox problem. IE9 has the same issues when HW accel is on.
