Hate to say it, but it will not be a Facebook killer and will almost certainly end in tears - just like Google Buzz did.
A company needs to have a certain amount of 'cool' to be able to pull off things like this. Google has about as much 'cool' as a closet full of jean-shorts, along with Microsoft. Arguably, Apple have the 'cool' image it would take to tackle Facebook but seem to be having their own problems making Ping fly.
Has anyone spotted any innovation at all here? I couldn't even sit through the whole of the first video.
The 'Circles' idea is well thought out, so much better than Facebook's awful way of doing things. Really not keen on Facebook but a few mates insist on using it for communications. Touch wood this will be a suitable replacement and that I can get them to give it a go.
Where have you been living?
Google is sub zero, better than cool in my books!

I guess it depends who you ask, and how they define 'cool'. Google have always been dreadfully 'uncool' in my books.
Maybe Google ought to be considered 'cool' in a different way than, say, Lamborghini, or iPod, or Facebook, or YouTube, or Playstation/Xbox. Google doesn't have the "I really want one" sort of brand 'coolness'.
To most, 'Google' is a good search engine - and I suspect that's why the survey ended up deciding it's 'cool'.
Does anyone have an invite they can send my way?
you mean youtube which is owned by google?
Google maps which is pretty much the go to mapping software for directions, Stalking ppl, Google mail which is one of the best free mail services out there, Google apps which is an awesome online office tool set. lots of cool tools for web sites and not forgetting android which is awesome
It might not be cool to but to most techies google is the mutts nuts. I would sell my family to work for them.
If its classed as uncool by chavs and the likes then i`m happy will mean a great social tool for people who know what they are doing
I got invited and it's looking really good from first impressions. I can share my picasa web albums with individual circles of people rather than everyone which is nice as I have loads of stuff already on picasa. The android app uploads your photos and videos automatically if you want, keeps them private until you want, I set ii to upload over wifi but you can set it over 3g or when charging etc. I think they're onto something here.
Privacy settings which actually make sense, which actually work, and are easy to find are pluses in my book..
Seems pretty good so far

I quite like it, I'm liking the circles. I'm not sure if it still works but if someone pm's me there gmail email addy I'll let you in on a little something. They may have closed the hole but I'll have a go with the first address I get
I'm really looking forward to it but the fudemental flaw will be the fact you no doubt need a gmail account to use it, and although I do, none if my family and only 2 of my friends do.
If you do go for this, they have just said that basic profile information has to be public. Things like your name, avatar etc. Even Facebook allows you to be 'Ex-Directory'.
