Yes it does! (well, the rest of the new console does, at least).

seems i skimmed it a bit too fast and missed off the bit about the resolution and performance. Will the IBC CPU be able to bring the performance up to XB/PS3 level?

Re: News - Nintendo breaks new ground with the Wii U console

Nice idea but I bet the controllers will be astronomically expensive. Heck its basically a DS in components - and there still around a £100 to buy. Can you imagine needing to buy 4 £100 controllers to allow the whole family to play. I can remember the people complaining about the cost of buying 4 wii controllers!

The article did say that it now supports HD resolutions so I would suggest that there's been some improvement. Remember however that no-one's ever claimed that the Wii was ever designed for the same group as Xbox/PS3, so I don't think "photorealism" figures very high up Nintendo's wish list.

Getting back to the article - I've got questions. Given that the hardware spec of the new controllers seems to suggest that they're actually DS's, how much are these puppies going to cost? Second point, given that the current controllers seem to be a little on the heavy side as regards power draw, (and no sign of a decent rechargeable option), how many sets of batteries am I going to have to buy per month to keep a pair of the new controllers running?

I'm pleased that it seems to be backwardly compatible with current Wii titles and peripherals, so providing Nintendo don't mess up the pricing then I'll probably trot along to Gamestation and try and trade in my current Wii for one of these new ones.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

It's got a Radeon GPU but they're not saying which. No pricing info that I could see.

Nintendo breaks new ground with the Wii U console
    No it doesn't.

I don't see anything groundbreaking here...its only catching up with existing technology from other products and integrating one or two features. Basically combining a DS with a Wii. Not blowing my mind here Nintendo.

What I found even more amusing was that the Keynote from Nintendo at E3 about this console ended up using footage from Xbox and PS3...way to score an own goal!

Re: News - Nintendo breaks new ground with the Wii U console

I really like the look of this, love the idea of being able to carry on playing a game while watching TV. I really didn't take to the Wii, was ok for parties but otherwise never got touched.

Wether I buy one depends on cost, if it's gonna be £400 odd then they can forget it!

Re: News - Nintendo breaks new ground with the Wii U console

I think Nintendo knows the recipe for success (for them anyway) is going to be a low price tag and accessible games. So I wouldn't think they would try breaking the playstation barrier for the exact reason which you just posted adz - you just wouldn't buy it.

Re: News - Nintendo breaks new ground with the Wii U console

Maybe we do need more letters in the alphabet, as Karl Pilkington thinks. Wii U? Have we really run out of words for naming things? I guess it's not as bad as naming it boswellox though. Or maybe companies put no thought into the naming of things anymore. As for a controller with a screen, I think we'll have to wait and see if it's actually useful or just gimmicky.

That controller looks a tad pricey and breakable considering the Nintendo market of kids and drunken adults....
