I wonder if the message is more literal than anyone imagines and the mention of 'ancient engines' and 'was that drew us together at the beginning of it all' means that they might head back to the Marathon franchise/universe to continue.
Back in the old days I used to love marathon 1/2 when it was a mac exclusive, but then again, would they want to even work on the FPS genre again, when it would be too easy to draw comparisons to their Halo games.
Meh - then again, it could just be some OTT BS PR spiel :)
