Re: News - Google refreshes Android Market with books and movies

Google has announced a long overdue refresh to the look, feel and functionality of the Android Market.
    Yay!
That said, is it just me, or is the Honeycomb version of the Market nicer to use?
In addition, US users will get access to books and movie rentals, presumably via Google Books and YouTube, directly from the Market. Google has said this facility will roll out to select international markets soon.
Sounds nice, but here's hoping that Google manage to deliver the non-US version faster than Amazon managed to with their app store (still waiting for the UK one)
The Android Market is generally compared unfavourably to the Apple App Store, especially in terms of user experience and how easy it is to find apps. This change, which you can see illustrated in the video below, is apparently designed to make the Market a bit easier to navigate. However there still seems to be an emphasis on featured apps, which Google presumably charges for.
I still can't believe that Google - who made their money with search - can't deliver a better 'experience'. Maybe I'm being harsh but it's not exactly an effortless process at the moment, so any improvement is to be welcomed. And if this means having 'featured apps' then I don't see many serious objections to that.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...
