I'm struggling with why people need tablets? I've seen 6 so far in real life out side of a shop:
1) Guy showing off ipad on launch day at best buy - standing outside store making very sure everyone could see the logo
2) Friend with ipad showing it off at party
3) Brothers EEE pad which he just plays games on
4) Guy using playbook to take photos of himself and partner at an aquarium (Even got me to take photo of them) - Why not just use a £50 camera?
5) My own cheap (£70) android model so I could mess about with rooting etc without risking my phone.
6) Guy at work with galaxy tab which he got to use as a sat nav??
So thats 3 people effectively showing off, one for games, one for GPS and one for hacking about. Apart from browsing the net at home in front of the TV i've yet to see a use for one?
Each to his/her own, so long as they like it, that's what matters.
Deo Adjuvante non Timendum
well that was really bad timing to use the word 'explodes' in a title...
Android ones look nice. I would never pay for an ipad unless i was rich!
Cheap Android tablets lack raw power to even play stupid Angry Birds... Used iPad 1 at ~£250 its still the best deal out there.

I can't believe that a Andriod tablet at the £250 mark can't play angry birds, unless its terribly written?
Which ones are you talking about?
I could see some of the £150 ones not being able too thou, but given that it doesn't even cost £250 for the components of an iPad, I can't see where your coming from. Yes andriod is sluggish, but not that much so surely?

Im fairly convinced this would be able to handle angry birds....

I should hope so!
Was there one in particular spoon? Or is it just a kool aid side effect?

So, there's three use cases off the bat! I used mine for web browsing in bed when I didn't have a laptop. I'd still be using it for web browsing in bed if the screen hadn't fritzed, because it's more convient than perching a laptop on my knee and less likely to burn itself out. I also used mine for casual games, as a media consumption device, and as an ereader. Oh, and for internet radio.
I think the bottom line is no-one needs a tablet, but there are quite a few tasks they do well and if those are the tasks you mostly use a portable device for they're well worth considering.
While this is true, I didn't find any that were sufficiently powerful to persuade me that I wouldn't need to spend a lot of time at my desktop if I didn't have a laptop available. Android's made an interesting start as far as productivity goes, but it's a long way short of being a "proper" productivity ecosystem.
Yes, it would. More than somewhat. My etouch handled Angry Birds perfectly, with a 1GHz ARM11 CPU and non-descript graphics. Not sure where you've got your information spoon_, but I wouldn't consider it a trust-worthy source![]()
