Not this AGAIN. You would think by now that we wouldn't need another "do video games cause violence" BS story
I just wonder how so many mass murderers 'made it' before the advent of computer games, they must have had a really hard time by comparison....
And just how can you use MW2 as a training tool? Did he go on a killing pree with a mouse or joypad? Did he master the islands "spawn points"? Did he setup his killstreaks correctly first?
It's absolutely ridiculous to anyone who stops and thinks for a minute. If he is trying to angle it that way it's to try and off-load blame nad/or appear insane (although his actions alone are proof enough of that for me!)

Well he's clearly decided to do anything it takes to gain publicity, including the murder of so many people. Why wouldn't he throw in anything else he could think of to get people talking about him?
Bet people here fall for it too :/

Right so the fact he played a video game was a training tool? not the 18months of military service you are required to do in Norway that teaches you how to kill, which he completed no less.

Oh four ****s ache!
Lets look at the figures here..
When was the first FPS released?
How many people have been murdered since that date and how many sited computer games as part of the reasoning.
Now, how many people have been murdered since the dawn of time..
Why do killers have gaming tagged onto them as part of the reasoning behind it, why cant people just be plain ole' crazy bastards?
By that reasoning I should be a well seasoned serial killer with all the games I have played since the early 80's. Just another chance for the media to jump all over "All games are bad m'kay"
Because we should absolutely take every last morsel of spittle flecked bullcrap that a lunatic spree killer says as being gospel. Seriously, why is this even a discussion? He may well have regarded MW2 as being a "training tool" but then he may well have regarded himself as Jesus and Rambo rolled into one with a side order of Chuck Norris. As opposed to a disordered narcissistic scumbag with a penchant for the mass-murder of innocent people. Personally, I'd have thought the most rational response to any such statement would be "Well, yes, he did say that but did you miss the part where he's STARK SLAVERING BUG**** NUTS?". Plus everything shaithis said aboveThat alone will give pressure groups the ammunition to press forward with plans to try and censor future games, and they'll probably have more people on board than ever before, such is the scale of the devestation caused by Breivik. Do they have a point? Should videogames be toned down?.
STOP PRESS
Man Utd have just offered snootyjim the Assistant Manager's position with a view to taking over in due course, having witnessed his heroics with Arbroath in Football Manager 2011.
That is of course, fully dependent on whether he decides to accept the offer from Ferrari to race in F1 after his glorious victory in the Classic Car race in Gran Turismo 5.
It is thought that he has declined the opportunity to become a professional poker player after winning at solitaire twice in a row, believing his abilities far superior to those required by the role.
It was only a matter of time before this age-old debate cropped up, really. Of course, being a stark-raving LOONATIC has nothing to do with it.
*Sigh*.

The only reason this debate keeps on rearing its dumb ugly head is because the people who genuinely believe it to be true are incapable of a rational thought. They have to be able to pin the blame on something and gaming will always be the obvious choice because its the easiest target.
Its easy to point the finger - but prepared to have 10 pointed back at you. Something they should remember maybe...?
One thing to consider though...how many millions (maybe into billions?) of gamers are there? If the statement was in any way true...we would of caused the apocalypse by now!
this is a very iffy argument because it can be looked at both ways,
Before games we had violent books (require some imagination but still) and we have had violent films and television, so can we really connect violent games and increase in crime etc.
On the other hand, how many mediums do you have the ability to personally kill people, cause mass harm etc. Only games, and the question is do most people realise it is only a game? Honestly I am not sure anymore, from working for Gamestation a few years ago I was suprised how many parents were buying very mature games for their little children despite being warned of the content, a good example would be GTA4 or Heavy Rain (where you choose to cut your own finger off?) etc.
So who knows really.
Surely they should have just ignored him as soon as he said that MW2 was realistic... As i generally don't know anyone that can spray and pray in real life and live to tell the tale. Next they'll blame Angry Birds.
It's the same problem with any mass murder inspired by extremist views on something.
Islam gets a bad image in the West primarily because of the events of 9/11, but thankfully it's widely accepted that Islam itself isn't to blame and that "there's always one who spoils it for everyone". Just because one nutcase 'gamer' (if you can even call him that) has gone on a psychotic killing spree doesn't mean that 'gamers' in general are training to be killers.
History repeats itself. There have been dozens of gruesome murders inspired by books and Hollywood movie plots. If anybody is to blame for what happened in Oslo, it's the people closest to the guy who might've spotted tell-tale signs of a nutcase.
