dog tags pack.... really?
Plus a decidedly small poster if you pre order at gamestation.
I pre-ordered this + COD at the same time..and the COD poster is much more impressive. one side is almost suitable to hang on the wall too..its huge.
Lets just hope the beta is better than the alpha now..need the commo rose and no more 3d spotting!
48 Hours early access? Is that all! Glad i didn't bother with MOH now.
Shame for those who do have early access as in the first 24 hours all content servers will die from being overloaded like in BC2 and the other 24 hours will be with a massive client/server bug not seen before due to the sheer number of people involved. I can just see it now. :shocked2:
Hopefully if all else fails you can download it off Origin, while i hate that piece of software with a passion it should be the most stable method for content delivery to everyone.
touche ;) ok so it;s the most reliable way to get the final version of the game :)
anyone have a list of the best retailers to get this from (including the best bundle of extras) from which retailers (for xbox 360) ;)
that'd be awesome :D
From EA direct? I think thats what I paid from them too, will put up with Origin for that price (well, I've also got another 6 or 7 games on there already so no biggie)
Do EA do pre-loads with Origin (nee' EADM) ? don't fancy my luck downloading it with everyone hammering the server on release day.
im suprised no ones said about getting back to karkand pack for free and paying £15 (lets aface it that is what it will convert to..) for it if you didnt preorder... guess everyone sees it similar to me, if you preorder you are putting your cash before the final product, i.e not seen any release reviews so your taking a gamble so they are trying to reward that a bit.
As with everything else, gimmick extras but i wouldnt say no simply because i paid £17 for it at ea :D. And origin isnt that bad... infact it seems pretty on par with steam (steam is slow and crashes alot for me over the years) only issue i had was in alpha testing of bf3 where it was bugged taking up cpu % had to kill via task manager :P.
Cant wait for this game though!
@rob, id say 99% sure it will preload, ive had dragon age 2 preloaded and lots of other games.. im sure they would preload this one as its expected to sell LOADS :D.
I massively object to them not releasing through Steam. All my other games are on there, why should I have to put up with another piece of software that does essentially the same thing, just with a different subset of games? Ridiculous, given that they successfully sold Bad Company 2 through steam.
I don't want a physical disk, I've run out of places to put the damn things, and I never go back to them anyway...
It might seem like cutting off my nose to spite my face, but I really am considering boycotting this game because of their decision not to release through steam. Wasn't it Game that threw toys out of the pram when Brink was released, causing that to get pulled from Steam on release day? Thankfully I had that preloaded. If it was Game, I will never, ever buy from them, and I will strongly advise all my gaming buddies to do the same.
Just to be clear, I'm not against Origin per se, but I am against having multiple gaming platforms to play/install different games. Competition is good for the consumer, but childish bickering "we won't release our game on your platform" doesn't help anyone, and I want to show EA what I think of the line they're taking.
I would much, MUCH rather they worked on improving their menus and server browser. Both BF2 and BF:BC2 had absolutely diabolical friends/server browsing systems. Why oh why won't they just integrate with Steam properly, it works for so many other games very well!
Utterly disgusted with EA: Release your game on ALL platforms/stores, and let your customers decide how they want to get hold of your product!
Roo
Why no steam? Oh so many reasons and it's been discussed to death on the various message boards relating to BF3. Put simply releasing through steam is expensive (to the publisher, developer and consumer initially) and would require constant investment from EA to keep it going, with the way that steam patches et al. For EA there is simply no business reason to do it when they have their own in-house system that doesn't take a huge cut of every sale.
That and the fact that so many gamers don't particularly like digital distribution (I hate it - partly because of the size of games, partly because i've yet to see a good digital distribution system, and partly as i like having a real box/manual/game DVD).
It's not as cut and dry as you think...
Yep, I prefer boxed games as I don't have to download tens of gigs if I ever decide to uninstall/reinstall.
As for Steam, why is Steam THE DD service that EVERYONE should use? Not all products (of any type) are available exactly how you want them, if you want it, buy it if you're happy the terms (and by that I mean cost, publisher, availability etc)
Many people on here (I'm thinking of Saracen as an example for some reason) have NOT bought many many games as they have DRM, are on Steam/some other reason, Saracen is also an old stubborn git so that might factor into it ;) (hey that's genuinely not an insult! Please don't ban me, pleeeeeeease...)
People are welcome to decide whether to buy or not buy a product, you are not owed anything so unfortunately it's 'like it or lump it'
In a perfect world all games would be available from multiple different schemes who could then compete on price, as it stands that isn't the way.
If you wish to boycott it then power to you (I really mean that, I doubt I'd boycott it), stick to your guns and if enough people do the same then maybe things will change. I don't see that happening for BF3 but who knows? :)
£39.99 for pre order or £29.99 from most online etailers. Think I will save my £10 and get it on release.
dont see why steam is always brought up, yeah personally i use it loads of css but thats it, its great for valve games and hardly anything else... why should ea have to pay to have it with steam and have extra hassle making sure it works for them? Theres probably another reason with bf3 using battlelog or whatever its called, website with server browser and everything, brilliant system and it launches the game via that which would require them changing it so that it can OPEN steam then via steam load it up, again more hassle.
i have games from direct2drive, microsoft live thing and greenmangaming, never had a problem as its pretty similar to just clicking the damn shortcut and launching the game... same as steam, best thing with bf3 is that if you really dislike origin then you only need to load it for bf3, never has to be loaded apart from that.
Main issue for me is steam has gone down a fair few times over the years, and their offline system is ridicules i like redundancy... if sc2 goes down then i can go on say css but if blizzard had sc2 on valve servers that wouldnt be the case and offline would make online unusable :(.
Also it does seem a bit one sided hate towards ea..blizzard dont have their games on steam so why should ea? they use their own patcher etc so its pretty similar situation. Ea got fed up paying up to valve and thought, yeah we wont pay this stupid fee and will sell to retailers and via their own website.
Simple :D.
EA have spent time and money creating origin and to further it's chances of success they decided to move their biggest title to it to drum up popularity. people can bitch and moan all they want how they want it on all platforms etc. but at the end of the day it's not your money being invested or spent, or your creation you're trying to get out there.
who are you to say they should release their games to your terms just to please your needs ?
o and the whole more software to have installed/more media to have around argument..waaah! it's really not that big of a deal. if you've got a system that will suffer by having another application running then you probably can't even run BF3 and if you've not got enough space for 1 more DVD case in your house than i advise you to move out of the shoebox you're currently living in
companies need to diversify and find more market share any way they can
sorry for sounding kinda harsh in this but it just comes off incredibly childish when you read these sort of arguments
If you don't like not being on Steam - vote where it hurts, with your wallet.
I personally don't care.
You have a few options here:
1) Buy off Origin and get financially hurt
2) Buy a retail copy for a much better bargain
3) Ignore the game completely as you want it on steam (Personally you're a muppet if you actually want and are looking forward to the game and do this)
But it goes much further than that, with retail pre-orders your likely to get it a few days early before release. If you hate physical DVD's then you can register your retail keys on Origin so you have a fully fledged digital copy to go with your disc. BTW you can do this now with any recently released EA games, even your steam keys. Also remember Origin does not have to be running to launch any game downloaded on it.
If your stubborn and hate Origin? Well your just going to either have to get used to it or get retail copies from now on as EA will be throwing their entire catalogue at this. EA have also not started a Valve trait of forcing you to use Origin for their compatible games which at least gives you the options.
While it's a major kick in the teeth to most (including myself) BF3 not being on steam is minor at best when you look at the alternatives.
I am not trying to stop any of you buy your games through whatever medium you choose, why should you object to me wanting it through the medium of my choice?
I'm just putting the point's across. You do have options if your now looking elsewhere. I think ditching the game because it's not on steam is a poor showing of the PC community personally. Especially when this is just as much Steam's fault then EA's.
If you really like the series, and are looking forward to BF3 you would buy it on the platform you think is the best alternative. Personally i will be buying a retail copy and then registering the CD Key on Origin so i have a digital copy. This support's DICE then who have put massive effort into making this game.
Get used to having more then one "steam" app. It's the future and you can bet that most content distributors are either looking at a digital delivery method of their own or are already working on one.
It's all down to money and they see the money they are giving to steam as money that they could be keeping.
I doubt I will buy it right away, somehow missed the £17 pre-order and now 30+ for it seems steep when they have effectively made it clear they can sell it for half that.
Building a PC pretty much just for this game so it better be worth it!
I'm so gutted you can't play split screen on multiplayer on console with this :( only thing it's missing.
