If it is pushed back any further, I'm much more likely to jump on Bulldozer. I need to build my system soon after Christmas. I was willing to perhaps wait until March, but any later is far too much. If Bulldozer benches well and is competetive vs the i5-2500k, it has my sale.
I'm really keen to know whether or not the new Ivy Bridge CPUs can go into current motherboards - specifically my new MSI Z68 chipset-based one, which is currently running a Pentium CPU as a 'place holder'.

It's safe to assume they can, given Gigabytes's announcement, so it is more to do with how willing your board vendor is really.

Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Until it is released I would not assume it will work perfectly in older socket 1155 motherboards.
I'm sure I read that Ivy Bridge will be backward compatible with the Sandybridge chipsets, but not vice versa, ie that a Sandy Bridge CPU will not work in a Ivy Bridge board.

As always though, and as the Cat has alluded, it'll be down to the motherboard manufacturer to maintain campatibility.

Funny how this news surfaces again just ahead of Bulldozer release
It is funny how people actually believed Intel would replace 32NM Sandy Bridge in under a year with 22NM Ivy Bridge.
Learn to read properly next time. People were expecting Ivy Bridge to be released by September to December this year. They expected production quantities of CPUs to be available in 9 to 11 months after Sandy Bridge was available for sale. Even the first generation Core i3 took around 14 months to be replaced. The first generation Core i7 debuted around 14 months before the Core i3.
Anyone would have realised that it would be at least Feburary to April before Ivy Bridge would be released.
BTW,good to hear you just heard about tick-tock. Most of us on this forum have known about this strategy ever since Intel talked about it years ago.

People on a few UK forums like OcUK for instance and a number of US ones. It was around the same time the 22NM finfets were announced by Intel.
Edit!!
Articles said that Ivy Bridge would be ready for volume production at the end of the year:

People intepretated this as being released at the end of the year.

IMO, in business terms, they've got no competition at this end of the market, so they can drag out their gameplan, it's not like AMD are knocking on the door. Step up AMD, else we'll see a slowdown for years to come. mORE POWAH!!
