Re: News - Crytek picks up Homefront for sequel

I love Homefront. Yeah it got average reviews but in all honesty it has been one of the most enjoyable FPS that I have played this year (Alongside MoH 2010). Granted I dont normally play this genre except for things like FEAR and Half Life, not overly bothered with CoD etc

It was just enjoyable to pick up and play. I also like the multiplayer on it, which for me never really happens. Few hours and thats me done with the MP side of things usually. Homefront though I still play MP on it. I have noticed there are less kids on it and working together as a team usually happens quite well.

Single player campaign was short which was a shame as the setting is REALLY good.

Crytek taking this one over can only be a good thing long term, should get a decent campaign with good length and decent MP side of things. Just hope they dont go creating a new engine that no one can run until years later!

I am guessing that Timesplitters 4 is going to bite the dust then ... ffs.

[snipped] Single player campaign was short which was a shame as the setting is REALLY good.

Agree with that 100% - it pained me that folks seemed to dismiss it as "CoD-lite", and I'll admit to replaying the Homefront SP a lot more than CoD:BO, (I also totally agree that MoH:Tier1 was actually quite good too). There were some really good set pieces in there, and while I wouldn't have given in 10/10, (SP campaign too short), I certainly would have been more generous than the 7/10 I saw in one place. I really liked the bridge takeover mission - although "Ride of the Valkyries" would have been nice to have as you were going in on the chopper.

Like you also say, here's hoping for a long SP campaign, preferably one with no zombies. I'm slightly worried in that I'm sure I heard Crytek don't actually like console development and stuff they've been involved with has been a bit "ho hum".

Oh, and did I mention ... no zombies!.

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

It's Crytek, it'll be fine (until the rock hard alien's/mutant's/Trigon's/whatever turn up in chapter 3.... )

Well the article says they're developing it for PC and console. It's hardly going to tax a modern PC if that's the case. Unless someone pulls their finger out and releases a console with significantly more grunt that is.
