Re: News - iPhone 5 launch reportedly 4 October

I doubt that we'll see NFC appearing in this iPhone - NFC technology at the moment just doesn't have that much use outside of Japan, and I really don't think that "mobile e-wallets" will take off the rest of the world for many years - if ever. Far too many issues with it at the moment (particularly around security, communication and dead batteries). I suspect we're looking at 2012 phones at the earliest.

I am struggling to find a big new feature for the iPhone 5 though at the moment, Apple seem to have been good at keeping the leaks to a minimum this time around. Bigger screen? Doesn't interest me. Dual core CPU? Doesn't interest me either (my iPhone 4 never lags..). Tapered design? Hate it.

It's still looking like the iPhone 5 will just be a "4S" at the moment, without any real killer feature to make me upgrade. Of course if Apple does release some stonking new feature i'll be there queuing up in the trafford center again getting my free cofee + doughnuts, but at things stand at the moment..I will just be keeping my 4.

While his liberal use of hyperbole and questionable terms such as ‘magical' is grating for many
Proud new Samsung Galaxy S2 owner here. Those smug adverts have put me off Apple for a very long time (but apparently they've not put off our IT department at work, hey ho). Besides, even if the iPhone 5 is 'better' than my new phone, I would be exceedingly surprised if I could get my hands on it for 15 quid a month... And I doubt it will be *that* much better!

I've got to be honest I'm not sure what any of the manufactures can bring out that I want in a new. My SE X10 does all I need and its a year old single core. All I'd like is better battery life and maybe more internal RAM - still bet you'll have big queues yet again as its a shiny new apple product.
    Trust

    Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1545 with Ryzen 5500u, 16gb and 256 NVMe, Windows 11.

Don't worry you S2 will boast better hardware specs than the Iphone 5 even when it is released its basically a dual core Iphone 4 with makeover.

Hmm, not sure where. Can't see it in the US (excluding certain stupid parts of Texas) because Apple'll play the home advantage. UK neither - because we don't have a totally brain-dead legal system yet. Europe might be possibility - especially France?

Stop that silly talk now - all the phone manufacturers are telling you that you need at least a dual core phone - so you just run out and buy one right this minute! Sheesh, next you'll be saying that you want a app-running portable device that allows you to talk to a person you're far away from.
A dual core phone'd be a waste of time for me - heck even on a good day I've only got a single core brain to drive it with.

Not so interested in the iPhone 5 tbh, I'll buy it if it's noticeably better than my iPhone 4 but I'm not just gonna buy it cos it's the "next new iThing"

What I'm mainly looking forward to is iOS5, I'll take a guess at 2-4 days before the iPhone 5 release iOS5 will be out.. Can't wait

I'm hoping it is a vast improvement as I hope to pick one up but if it's not much of an improvement over the iPhone 4 I may jump ship back to Anrdoid, I need change.
