Re: News - Apple reveals UK iPhone 4S pricing

I noticed these prices last night and was a bit taken aback. There's expensive and then there's expensive especially when comparing the 4S to the Galaxy S2. My first reaction was that the base 4S is about £100 too expensive but then that could be said about most Apple products. I was going to get one as an upgrade to my 3GS but now I'm not too sure. It really depends on what iOS 5 brings to the table.

Re: News - Apple reveals UK iPhone 4S pricing

Its the same pricing for the original 16GB when it came out so nothing new. There are unique features to the 4S which the 4 wont get, like Siri for example and the faster/better camera. Personally if you are on a 3G/S then the 4S would be a good upgrade if you want to stay on the Apple route. If not the Nexus Prime is due for unveiling next week, and I am sure Nokias offerings for WP7 are due.

Well it *should* drive down the price of iphone4 to more reasonable levels.

Last I checked people were still selling used ones for £350+

Re: News - Apple reveals UK iPhone 4S pricing

My girlfriend just got an Samsung Galaxy S2 for £27 a month. She's saving £7 a month compared to her old 3GS contract (It was even more for a new iphone 4). The GS2 is just far better value for money at the moment.

    I bought a Galaxy S1 for £160. S2 can be bought for £300.
Much better specs. For £499 I think you can buy the LG Optimus 2X or 3D with the nVidia chip.

    How is £499 cheap ???

    Still £319 for a 3GS? That's pretty steep...

Complete joke and you would be looking at £700(rumour/guess) for the 64GB version... No doubt stupid people will still get them

Re: News - Apple reveals UK iPhone 4S pricing

No, no doubt people who want to pay an amount for a product they want will still get them. How is that different to any other product on the market?
It's no surprise, they've been priced like this for ages, why are people still acting surprised ? If they didn't sell they would be cheaper, they do so they aren't....

Re: News - Apple reveals UK iPhone 4S pricing

£319 is an obscene amount for the 3GS. Their new flagship phone - and hell, even their 16-month old phone with similar specs - fine, charge the usual, people will buy it, it's worth it to them. But really? Who will buy a 2.5year old phone with really quite poor specs now (3MP camera, 256MB RAM, 320x480 screen) for that sort of money? The only place you'd find those specs now is in a bottom-of-the-line Android phone (e.g. HTC Wildfire, available new sim-free for <£150 from UK operators, has more RAM and better camera, albeit worse resolution). Anyone who buys a 3GS at that price, is, quite frankly, a numpty. They should buy a 4 second hand or a good quality android phone instead.

Welcome to the world of Apple. Apple is seen as a premium brand, the creme de la creme of mobile phones, the Armani of technology. And people will pay a he'll of a lot of money for that cache. There is no if, erm or but about it.

Production costs don't seem very high:

The costs suggested do not include labour charges and research it seems.

Yeah £499 is expensive... the o2x is between £270-90(fluctuates) and the 3d is already £350.... applies iphone 4s adds nothing but an "under the hood" upgrade to bring it closer to competition (infact ill admit it brings it above them as their screen is still superior in resolution, no idea why LG phones dont do this since LG is the pioneer here!). Apple have set themselves in a good position ever since they launched flashmemory based products, with no expansion slot it means their upgrade paths can be set to what they want and if people want a bigger device they will most likely buy the next version for £xxxxxx cause of more storage. It does make me a bit sorry for some people, alot of people i know dont realise that expansions slots are common on everything but apple and are actually useable in phones... lol? Take my LG o2x for example, 8gb onboard and can buy a 32gb microsd for £20 so much cheaper than apples and if i really wanted to i could buy ~5 lots of them and keep them for real portable storage !

And cat thats interesting... labour costs should be added but surely development costs are £0-£10? considering none of this tech is new... lol.
