Seems a bit steep when you compare it to a PS3. Not so steep when you compare it to a 5" tablet though...

I want one of these, but I think £280 for the 3G model is pushing things a bit for a gaming device. However if it offer a good web browsing experience which I am fairly doubtful of, then the £280 price tag might just make it a bit of a steal.

Re: News - PlayStation Vita launch date and price revealed

My son picked up a Dell Streak 7 for £150 from Tescos recently...he's very happy, can watch movies etc. on the go, and although it lacks 3G the amount of free wi-fi spots is adequate. Seems to me that the price is too high, the 3DS suffered greatly till they reduced the price, and I reckon this will go the same way...

£50 extra for the 3g version seems a bit steep, unless the 3g connection is free, like on the Kindle...

£230 is too much to stomach for any parent in this economy for a portable games machine. Considering most smartphones can play games very well now, I would think there is a very small market for a device of this type at those prices.

Personally I don't see the point of the 3G version as you can't play proper multilayer over it and you can't download games over 20mb on it. All the facebook\twitter stuff is pretty much on every phone going these days, so what are you actually getting with the 3G version?

Where did you hear that? I could of swarn it was stated at E3 that the benefit of 3G was the ability to play games online on the go.

Also, it's fair comments all around, but this device is almost as powerful as a PS3 yet so small in comparison, it is in effect a PS3 in your hand, so comparisons to phones or other handheld devices for me personally isn't a justified comparison.

Yes if it was a new iPhone or iPod touch or even a new PSP with similar specs to modern smartphones, I could quite understand the comparison, but were talking about a PS3 console in your hand here, so £230 is a fair price from where I am sitting, yes it is very expensive, but you are paying for what you get.

I can't quite understand the need for an extra £50 for 3G connectivity though.

who wants a ps3 in their hand though? Adults don't usually tend to buy these sorts of items, so how many kids can afford this? If you want 3G, phone capability, just get one device and be done with it...

Well that's just it, their is an audience that does/will like the idea of a PS3 in their hand.

Kids probably can't afford it, but I also don't know of many kids that can afford a half decent smartphone.

One device is fine, I am a fan of one device, but so far there is not one device for me that can tick all the boxes, one example being the iPhones audio capabilities, they suck.

I appreciate options and I can see the PSP being a fairly popular option amongst many gamers. I don't game much on the consoles at home, but knowing I can have a good gaming experience portably is something I appreciate.

I think it's possibly too good for portable play, if that's possible. People are happy with DS-type ability if it's handheld, and are prepared to pay that price. In order to get as good as the PSP is, it's expensive, although if you compare it to a phone, perhaps not so.

Re: X10, have you tried upgrading to 2.3? My wife hated her big x10 when it was 1.6/2.1. Now she's on 2.3, she quite likes it. She even bought a new cover and screen protector for it...

I am going to flash it with a custom rom, probably gingerDX. For what I use it for, it's adequate, and I paid less than £80 for it on payg. Needed a phone quick as previous one had died, and it was the right price at the right time...might actually upgrade to a Xperia Mini Pro as they're £140 from Tescos

Quality product but pricey. £280 for the 3G model is hard to swallow, I doubt these will sell dramatically well.
