Little too late , good ideas , but i think the smartphone market is already saturated.
Disagree. I think Nokia have gone the right way and gone with quality, modern style and a decent OS - What the good thing is the price also kept low (compared to modern smart phones)
I think Nokia are on to winners with these. I would consider moving from Android and HTC to the Lumia 800.... Although I would like to see a bigger screen from Nokia, but give them time.
How many people are getting a little tired of expensive and long contracts just to get a modern up to date phone... Looks like Nokia maybe solving answer!
Disagree also.
I waited for the Nexus Prime release in the hope of finding something that offered a good reason to upgrade my iPhone 4, but ended up feeling underwhelmed.
Looking forward to seeing some reviews on these new Nokia handsets. I'm impressed with what I see and read so far.
looks nice, would be interested to know how thick they are, after owning the Galaxy S2 I don't think I could go above 10mm again.
I wouldn't agree - sure we've got Apple and Android phones in the top two slots, but there's surely plenty of room for a contender for #3 against Blackberry.
Okay, I'd maybe be slightly disappointed that they've been a bit conservative - but that seems to be the case with all the "traditional" phone vendors.
Don't like the 710 at all, but the 800 has (judging by the pics anyway) some presence and the vivid colouration is sure to help the "notice factor" when they're on the shelves in Phones4U, Carphone Warehouse, etc. And personally, I like that sky blue model.
Not much to count against them: good OS; probably good hardware; price competitive; AMOLED screen and relatively fast processor. I'll admit to being a bit of a Nokia fan, so I'm pleased that they apparently have done well with their first WM7 phone - hopefully it'll gain them a lot of sales.
Thing is, a lot of these sales will come down to store presence, what they have and such.
I was in a t-mobile shop the other month and the clerks hadn't even used a WP7 phone, they didn't even stock them. They said everyone either wants an iPhone or the best android they can afford, those who can't even afford that they get naff all commission for. Funny thing is, two of the staff really liked it, even more they think the price point of the omnia7 ment there was nothing else to beat it on andriod.
If nokia manage to sell this, having a good series of advertising, combined with staff training, they might be on to a winner. The engineer in me much prefers the design of the Nokia to iPhone 4!
Also with an AMOLED WP7 looks really good, the black been so black makes all the menus and the like stand out, and look a lot more 'clean n sharp' than anything on a higher resolution LCD.

Don't forget the price of these handsets. You can't compare a €400 phone against a €600 phone (that a 50% price increase) Nokia are clearly not gunning for iphone or high end Android territory. They have clearly thought this through and realise there are very few good choices in high end smart phones in the €300-€400 bracket (£20 per month on contract I guess) If you can't afford the £35+ per month asking price for a iphone or galaxy s2 then this new Nokia looks the bizz to me.
And really is there much difference in Apple os, Android and Windows. At the end of the day they all do the same thing for 90%+ users.
Im looking at it and thinking... 'eeewwwwwww' to be honest. Maybe im wrong but the way the world has seriously turned to form over function thanks to apple, i dont see these things selling. On the other hand i know jack about fashion so i could be 100% wrong and these things could be massive. I guess all depends on if some famous musician or celebrity uses one really, the sheep will follow the Shepard.
Behind the garish exterior it does seem to have a pretty spot on specification for Nokia to get back into the smartphone biz.
No surprises at all really. Stunning device though, can't wait to get my hands on one!
I'd even consider the 710, the price is ridiculously low (EUR270) considering the spec (1.4GHz, 512MB, 16GB). For comparison, Clove have the HTC Radar at £285, which has the same 1GHz processor as the launch handsets (albeit in a unibody chassis and with a front facing camera) with only 8GB storage.
While you can say its a fugly, its definately not form over function.
By choosing polycarbonite chassis they have better reception, no need for a case (any scratch is the same colour, no paint to flake off), it will flex a little, rather than having the brittle nature of two bits of glass (only Apple seem to get away with moronic stuff like that).
I'd like to see one in the flesh myself, but there is something about the design which is certainly striking!

I don't know about the 710 but the 800 is lovely... I mean really - it's nice to hold and to look at. I looked at it a few months ago, as of then, the casing was all metal - no crappy plastic.
Certainly unique looking......and based on the design, I think they may sell ok....just not to men
